It nearly brings tears to the eyes, the waste. The needless waste. In human life.

Exactly right. So many of the very best died in that stupid war.

We have still not recovered from it.

Both the NAZIs and the Soviets came from that stupid war.

If it wasn’t for Clemenceau, there would have been no Hitler.

It was the kin of Queen Victoria killing each other. The US should not have gotten involved in it as Woodrow Wilson was re-elected on a platform of HE KEPT US OUT OF WAR!

Once in he declared war on Germany.

LOL. But the Franco-Prussian war was the final set-up by Bismarck to stampede the German states into unifying. If the Germans had simply insisted on reparations because the French declared war first instead annexing so much territory, there might not have been a Great War at all.

And everything might have been different if the Archduke Ferdinand's driver had not made a wrong turn.

If your worried about human life you should be worried about all the abortions happening in America and across the world every single day. This is happening and being funded by our taxes every day. Disgusting

Showed the power of Propaganda, it’s a lesson our modern Mainstream Media is following to a ‘T’.

Something was going to set it off, it was only a matter of time.

People on this thread are expressing sorrow on this excruciatingly painful war story.

Your attempt to what-about-this-though, is offensive to me.

Go find an article about abortion and post it and talk about it. Shove off.

Probably, but the provocation might not have been so great, and other actors (including the Archduke) might have been able to play a role.

If you follow the details of how Europe stumbled into WWI, the importance of the particular handful of individuals making decisions becomes apparent.

Perhaps. But, without question Hitler was.

it was our business because 1) German subs started sinking our ships - until then we were just providing munitions and supplies; and 2) Germany was actively encouraging Mexico to join the Central Powers and declare war on the US (they tried the same in ww2)

Maybe if Britain wasn’t trying to starve out Germany with their naval blockade, the Germans wouldn’t have had to sink ships heading to Britain.

A true Neutral would have told Britain to stop the blockade or else we wouldn’t risk our ships trying to aid them.

And furthermore, Britain should have stayed out of it as well. It basically doomed their Empire win or lose.

‘The start of the decline of Western Civilization.”

There were a lot of WWI documentaries made in the last 5 years, many on Prime and Netflix. I learned a lot. We still live in a world beset with problems caused/left unresolved by WWI.
