“At first the sailors thought it was a mermaid with an overbite.”

The Mermaid

Chorus
and the ocean waves do roll, and the stormy wind do blow
we poor sailors go skippin’ at the top, while the landlubbers lie down
below, below, below
and the landlubbers lie down below

It was Friday morn, when we set sail and we were not far from the land
when our captain he spied a mermaid so fair
with a comb and a glass in her hand (Chorus)

Up spoke the captain of our gallant ship, and a fine brave man was he
he said, “That fishy mermaid has warned me of our doom,
we shall sleep at the bottom of the sea!” (Chorus)

Up spoke the first mate of our gallant ship, and a brave spoken man was he
he said, “I have a wife in Brooklyn by the sea
and tonight a widow she will be!” (Chorus)

Up spoke the cabin boy of our gallant ship, and a bloody li’l bugger was he
he said, “I have a sweetheart in Salem by the sea
and tonight a weepin’ she will be!” (Chorus)

Then up spoke the cook of our gallant ship, and a crazy old butcher was he
he said, “I care much more for my pots and my pans
than I cares for the bottom of the sea!” (Chorus)

Then up spoke the parrot of our gallant ship and a crazy old buzzard was he
he said, “I cares more for my crackers and my seeds
than I cares for the bottom of the sea!” (Chorus)

Then three times ‘round spun our gallant ship
three times ‘round spun she
three times ‘round spun our gallant ship
and she sank to the bottom of the sea (Chorus)

This is a cute story but it looks like American media is exaggerating a bit.
“While such sightings are unusual, an adult walrus was seen on the north and west coast of Scotland in 2018.”
“The Irish Whale and Dolphin group (IWDG) believe it is the third sighting of a walrus since 1999.”
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56404484

The take that it’s a young walrus looking for new territory (not one that got lost) is interesting. I saw a video of Walrus on an island that was extremely overcrowded. Seems to me, expanding territory is what they would do.

And the dominant male Walruses are territorial.

Good for this guy, he's got a plan. If he can persuade some girls to move he can show them his large luxurious property.
