You are 100% correct about Springsteen & his borrowing heavily from Van the man. Morrison has mentioned it in some of his interviews.

Van is a musical genius, Bruce is a pop singer.

I always hear “wrapped up like a douche”.
Like Louie Louie. The lyrics in the original version by Richard Berry were clear, about a homesick Jamaican sailor. But the more well known Kingsmen version actually triggered investigations by the FCC over possible obscenity because the lyrics were so garbled and misheard.

Yeah, separating the music from the political idiocy of the composer is necessary in order to enjoy a lot of music these days. I also like much of Springsteen’s early work.

I dunno, so I looked her up. She now looks like life hasn’t been very kind to her. I did not know or had completely forgotten all about Phillips. I was thinking he had kids with his first wife then he left her and kids for the singer. I was mistaken. Doesn’t much matter. I still cannot stand the douche nozzle...
