Most of the NE area has "good pizza". Certainly great pizza when compared to the rest of the country.
Same with Italian breads and "hard rolls".
Why it's so hard for the rest of the country to master these basic foods? Not a clue but it isn't the water like they say.

Why it's so hard for the rest of the country to master these basic foods? I don't know. Being a yankee/Southern halfbreed I suspect that it's because, in places like my old hometown, Jax, you can get great BBQ and fried chicken, so the notion to eat a pizza just never comes up.

Keep looking, you’ll find one. Veal Francese at Sals downtown is sublime. Pizza not so much, Grimaldis is the bomb. Wasteland? I disagree, you just gotta know where to go.
