background programs that were not letting the computer sleep when it should have:What is a "background program" exactly?
I'll bet you use GOOGLE. Maybe even Chrome. Don't worry, it's just GOOGLE using your computer when you aren't.
Thanks Chuck, I’ll check it out.
that .bat stuff is way to above my paygrade lol, but yeah. almost sounds like something isn’t shutting off
Good luck,we had a new Dell that after 6 months would not wake up from sleep from time to time. We fiddled with sleep times to no avail. It finally resolved itself after some Microsoft software update.
Go to settings, power and sleep. Perhaps the update changed these settings.
That is the opposite of what he is looking for.. He wants his PC to go to sleep. That link OP says his PC won’t wake up.
:p
"no longer able to update the windows updater downloader/installer"
Cute, I tell people the best operating system to use is the one you already understand
I started using computer in ‘72, from programmable calculators, assembly, various high level languages, many different platforms, but in day-to-day use gravitate towards ease of use.. writing this on iPadOS device 14.5 beta
Your welcome.
:)
I started in ‘80.. assembly, machine, and basic...
Went on to Uni and had to learn Fortran, Watfiv, C, and Cobol. (my favorite, at the time, was Pascal.. later Instant Pascal (Apple IIe), then on to DOS’ Turbo Pascal.)
Actually started learning UNIX directly when I started playing with the internet (of course this was WAY before WWW, and everything was Dial-Up).
Took a break from programming (too long) and am WAY behind the times. As soon as I get my new computer and 2 more monitors.
I am going to jump in to learn C++ and (shivering) GoLang (it is, more or less, C++ that automatically detects whether you are using x85 or x64 (taking a lot of the hassle out of the coding), and is geared toward web programming (but not limited to). It IS kind of backwards from C++ (formulas) though, and can be quite confusing. (PLUS, it is from Google (Google Language), but, considering we make the program, we know where it is calling ;^) )
Your welcome.
Oops, sorry for the typos, I should have proof-read. :p
Peace be unto you with your given endeavors
One basic thing to try is just create your own power plan and enable it. Then you can establish your settings however you prefer but I would definitely review a section called ‘advanced settings’ or something along those lines. This allows various options in terms of timing when to go to sleep, screen saver, turn off hard disk, etc. if you don’t create your own power plan, there are usually two default options, one is the set for best performance the other is to set for a best appearance. You may want to check the sleep options for the best appearance.
If you can’t get anything accomplished in this area that is probably the result of a bunch of bloatware Lenovo put on their machines where a service is constantly polling a server on the Internet. Hard to speculate over a message board. Hopefully it’s not jacked up on Adderall-ware!
“Lenovo support takes forever. We only buy Dell and HP now. One reason is support.”
Not in Japan . We called for the 2nd time yesterday and they answered in a minute . Support is handled by Japanese in Japan and not Chinese . Extremely patient and polite .
“I’ve heard some porn sites will cause that...”
Haven’t been on any . The problem started immediately after a Windows update .
“Check Settings and search for “Control Panel”
then when Control Panel window opens select
“Hardware and Sound”
Look for the shield symbol and “Device Manager”
Open Device Manager and select “Display adapters”
Right click on your adapter (Intel, AMD Radeon, ...)
Click menu item “Update driver”
Solved the sleep issue for me after the Win 10 update several weeks ago.”
That’s what Lenovo had us do yesterday but it didn’t fix the problem .
