It galled a lot of WWII German soldiers that they were being beaten by an army commanded by an man named Eisenhower.

I believe von Bismarck once said something about how he considered it a major tragedy that this powerful country across the Atlantic populated by German descendants more than any other ethnic group, should be an English speaking country instead of German. He somehow sensed that if push came to shove in the future, we'd be more inclined to support the country we shared a language with, than the one we shared DNA with.
