My brother and sister in law were OK, but very shaken up. Thank you for asking.

They later moved to Arizona. :-))

Yes, CB radio can be a great help.

The advantage of drone is it can have a bird-eye view of convoys in immediate surroundings, using a high resolution camera.

Many tests are in progress about a self-driving truck convoy. In such a case, a drone can be assigned to check what is ahead and around the convoy. A drone operator can monitor drone footage to watch for any sign of trouble. I don't know if it has been tried, though.

Another interesting application is for news coverage. I know a case where a bunch of reporters wanted to report on certain real estate. Unfortunately for them, it was off limit to outsiders. So they flew their drone. It gave them a good coverage of what is inside the location while flying outside the limit.

“They’re trying to fool people into thinking global warming is causing more storms. A BS psyops tactic.”

I’m waiting for Winter Storm Hitler.

Reminded me...

About 1984, I was driving to Little Rock on I-30. Sunday morning, no hurry and light traffic, so I was just toolin’ along about 70 in the right lane and letting the big rigs blow by me at 80-85. I was in my ‘82 280ZX, which is low profile, when the inner right tire on a trailer blew RIGHT BESIDE MY DOOR!

I almost fouled my clothing; it was like a bomb explosion! The big rig just kept going as though nothing had happened.
I kept control of my car and was really thankful it wasn’t the OUTER tire that had the blowout.

It is just as likely that they climbed up in elevation into an area of snow, icing and fog or whiteout conditions which resulted in no traction and no visibility.

Yep. A foot of snow in winter used to barely get a mention here in upstate NY a couple hours from the PA border.

I drove from N Metro Detroit to Buffalo-Amherst, NY in the Dec. 1993 storm. I remember that it was the day after Frank Zappa died. We went in a white ‘92 Mustang GT convertible and traveled to NY via Ontario and the bridge in Sarnia across to Buffalo It was white-out conditions and we were like a stealth Mustang all the way in to Amherst.

It's fun when you run out of places to put it.

It’s tough clearing snow the correct way when it’s this deep.

Front end loader is the best way ;-)

I’ll bet there were a few who were texting or at least carrying on a conversation on their cell phones just as it happened. They may not have caused it but you would hope that it made them think.
