I saw use of this many years ago on another local forum by one of the biggest troll-fraud-losers on the web.
It was fun watching the fireworks when he was finally outted.

Some people here don’t like vanities and or independent thought or opinion. They much prefer articles from MSNBC, ABC, FOX, CNN, CBS, et al.

I've been here 20.5 years, initiated 22 threads of which exactly 1 was a "Vanity" and labeled as such.
It's got nothing to do with "self-righteousness", it has to do with the site not having direct/keyword mute/block (and I still regard John's coding as genius, so much so offering him $ yearly to lease/license the framework to me for a strictly sports site); and so our reliance is literally on the home page as framed -- Breaking, Front Page, and the last 5 or 6 active posts.
"Vanity" in the title would have gone a loooong way here.

I think it’s 10 years for being a Newbie. After that, they’ll call you “princess”.
But 47 comments is an indication of a great vanity.
Okay, here we go again. I come to this forum to read others’ comments, learn and get educated about new things regarding what’s happening in this upside-down world right now, and to comment sometimes. I use the common word COMMENT, meaning to write my opinions, my thoughts, my ideas. Everyone seems to be hyper-ventilating about my VANITIES. I know what the word “vanity” means, in the English dictionary, but apparently on this forum, “vanity” is yet another code word for your secret club members to know. Whatever the h-— it means, I seem to have alot of it. Something tells me that’s not a good thing, not a compliment. I speak two languages fluently, but not the FR code language.
So, I lose, right?

I’ve been a lurker and contributor for many years, but this is my first time writing anything. I’m glad you posted what you did - there will always be malcontents, but you should know that there are many “people of a more advanced level of maturity and intellect” who appreciate you. We must stand together in this dark hour. As far as I’m concerned, if we let the fraud stand, the Republic is lost. Let’s all stand together and do what we can to make certain that President Trump is inaugurated on 1-20-21. God Bless all of you.
You will be exchanging information with people of advanced age and minds closed as tight as possible.
There are some reasonable folks around. But they tend to only come out when Judge Jeanine is on.

Thanks, fellow-Texan. Every day, I pray for our republic and our POTUS, with his hand on the Bible, being sworn in for another four years. Yes, we’re all in this together and we must stand as an army of Americans for America as founded.

I really think you missed the point of my reply.
I was defending you as a new person, often referred to as a “newbie”.
I made comments like: “OK, I personally see nothing wrong with that.” “There appears to be nothing leftie or trollish about the vanity content.”
I am not the one complaining about punctuation marks. I never said your vanity was wrong.
When I said: “This election is making FReepers a little crazy. The down and outers, the Debbie Downers, the negativism expressed just about everyplace.” I was referring to those attacking you.
Actually, this whole thread is a sign of the anxiety going on right now. A way to keep one’s mental health up is by not being so negative, but rather see the entertainment value of threads like this.

Not bad. I’ve heard them all. I used to be a hardcore Browns fan. Now, not so much. Just not interested in fooling around with a screen name change.
The move to Baltimore was more than instructive. It told me it’s not “our” team, and they don’t give a rat’s behind about the fans, they only care about the fan’s money.
Now, the new Browns. A string of horrible management/owners. A product as terrible as any sports franchise has ever offered. The team this year is a little better than average, even with the midget QB. The owner is a meddler, and a crook.
When friends want to watch the Browns, many times I find myself rooting for them to lose.
