Not to argue, but they know it and their behavior is an attempt to get a bounce out of a dead cat. They know they're not going to be able to reverse the trend and their only option is to position themselves for a merger.
FOX in particular is in trouble because they're not already tied to a larger conglomerate such as Viacom, Comcast, or Disney since what you know of as FOX is the castoffs from it when Disney bought out the rest of FOX in 2019 and left the castoffs behind for Murdoch while letting him keep the name.
