They affect some people differently. Winston Churchill was a cigar smoker, and lived to be 90.

I had an Great Uncle who lived till 85 smoking cigars, drinking his homemade wine and cannot forget his beer.

I suspect many of us carry the memory of the day we first discovered Rush in the same way that other major events become seared into our minds. For Boomers, it was the JFK assassination, later, it was 911. In 2016, it was the stunning Trump victory.

We can hold happy memories. Most of us probably have a story to tell about our first El Rushbo experience.

For me it was fall 1990 during the lead up to the first Gulf War. I was 16 at the time and being born in 1974 I had never experienced a real war and was kind of obsessed with it, being interested in anything military related. We lived out in the country and there was no cable TV. So desperate for news I was tuned in the old console stereo we had. I stumbled on this guy, Rush, who was talking about the war and politics. At the time I knew nothing (and cared little) about politics. My parents were nominal democrats (though they voted for Reagan) but really weren't political either. Not only did Rush turn me into a conservative for life, my parents started listening, switched parties and became avid conservative voters as well.

I listened to Rush religiously through High School and college. Though in the mid 2000's I started listening less and less (due to career and family I couldn't really devote three hours a day anymore, and it was quicker just to quickly log onto sites like Free Republic for conservative news). Sadly when I heard he had been diagnosed with cancer I hadn't tuned into his show in over two years. I've been trying to tune in as much as I can while I still have the chance. I just never thought about him dying, I always assumed one day he might up and retire, otherwise I pictured him still doing radio when he was 90.

Rush is not an old man and the fact that he has accepted the fact that he has some sort of disease and he has accepted its consequences is most DISAPPOINTING.

I never thought of Rush as a loser, but he has got to get more control over his life.

Read “the Will to Live” and that may help him.

Yeah, it seems to be good genetics or luck of the draw or whatever. I had an great uncle that was a chain smoker, he cut back to only a couple a day when was in his late 80's, but never quit entirely, finally ended up dying in his sleep at 97, but never had a trace of cancer. On the other hand I had brother-in-law who was a chain smoker and died of lung cancer at 54. I guess that's true of any vice though, you have some people that OD from heroin the first time they use it, then you have people like Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones that had a 40 year heroin addiction from his 20 and only got clean in his 60's and is still alive and going strong today at 76.

In Aug 1988 I was a young skull full of mush driving across the fruited plain from a summer job in a big city back to my college town for the fall.

I did what young men alone might sometimes do but not want to tell their friends they did - I tuned in to AM radio.

I heard a brilliant man talking. It was too good to be true that someone could expound on my thoughts better than I could. I assumed it was a local thing and I’d never hear of him again.

A year or two later a girlfriend told me about him and that I would probably like him. It was the same guy.

I discovered Rush in 1993 while I was 7 months pregnant with my son.

I was in a supermarket when I saw his book “The Way Things Ought to Be” - and remember another radio host excoriating the book and him (can’t remember who).

I decided to chance it and buy the book - I remember placing it face down in my cart so no one else would see it.

Read it in one sitting - hey, this guy was saying exactly what my family and I were talking about behind closed doors.

Turned on his show and have been a faithful listener ever since.

There is Rush and there is no one else.

I’ve been listening to him carefully every day and his energy seems very good - his voice as well.

We were wondering if he were getting oxygen between segments or during commercial breaks.

Rush himself said he is weakening, unfortunately.

I am savoring every minute of his show and insist on not being interrupted during this time.

I had the opportunity to actually meet Rush in the 90’s. Someone had organized a road trip to NYC to watch him record his television show (which he had back then). I remember it was an episode that included a video of Bill Clinton laughing at a funeral, then looking real serious when he saw the camera.

After the recording I got to meet him an have him sign a copy of his first book, “The Way Things Ought to Be.” We then went to eat at “Patsy’s”, one of Rush’s favorite restaurants, hoping to see him there. Unfortunately he never showed (as far as we know) - oh well.

I will always treasure the memory of meeting The Mayor of Realville.

Cigars suck. Grant, Freud, Limbaugh. etc. etc. etc.

Rush is a great man but his foibles cost him. Most likely lost his hearing due to a pill addiction and now this.

Rush and I are the same age (I’m a couple of months older), we grew up in a world of smoking. Most of our parents smoked, damn near all of our TY stars smoked and the television had cigarette ads one after another. When I was in the ARMY the US Government supplied me with smokes in every box of C-RATs. Our high schools had designated smoking area’s, we smoked on planes and in Doctor offices. Anybody who had the money could buy a pack of smokes, no age restrictions. How anybody got through that age without smoking is a miracle.

In March 1990 I was listening to C-SPAN while they did “talk radio week”, going live from studios of talk show hosts.

I was instantly mesmerized by this Rush Limbaugh character, expressing conservative views and and having a ball. He had then not one but four Snerdleys: Bo, Mario, Mervin, and Chin-yang. His updates were hilarious, especially the feminist update. I have listened daily ever since.

Rush is on daily despite his cancer, an incredibly brave thing to do. He is determined to lend his commentary up to Election Day and we should pray for him every day.

Fenbendazole is also a horse wormer. A tube cost’s less than $10 to treat a 1200 # horse.

Look up on google.

Wormers-—equine-—canine-—etc.

And he lived to be 100. I’m not excusing smoking, just saying it affects people differently.

He told a story about it once, he said all the guys trying to get into radio were chain smokers back in the day.

Nat King Cole felt the same way about smoking. Felt that it gave him his distinctive singing voice.

Cancer got him too....
