I appreciate your opinion, but my first impression is the strongest with me.
We’ll see.
They should be trying to remake bad movies to give them a new life instead of recycling the same classics OR trying to push classic stories too far. The Matrix would be a good example of where they should have stopped with the first - or second.
Hopefully it will not be as dull and have an ugly character like Baron Harkonnen to stare at as in the 1984 Dune movie.
I hope someday that “Ringworld” or “Rendezvous with Rama” is made. Or a good Star Wars and Star Trek show is made.
A good one : )

I think Dune is one of those properties that is impossible to effectively translate to the screen. I’ve believed that for years.
Would “Beserker” by the ancient alien killing machines in older scifi? Arguably a greater threat than the Borg.
And the gross body horror like pustules on his skin and drinking someone’s heart valve blood.
The problem is that the book is very personal to every reader. The world that Frank Herbert creates is very vivid and detailed, but his writing is such that even with all of that, it still allows wide latitude for the reader to create what they want to see in their own minds. This alone makes developing a film problematic -- and why the previous attempts have been so very different from one another.
The span of the book also prevents a simple wrap-up in a mere 2-3 hour picture. Herbert's content deserves a broader canvas -- multiple episodes, perhaps even including Dune Messiah to round out the story (Children of Dune sucked, so leave that one out). This also has been attempted with the mini-series that was created, but that, too, suffered from my first point above.
I agree, this property might be best uniquely left alone.
Why be so human-centric? Let the worms win this time!
Yep... A total LGBGT cast will guarantee box office success...
Why did I feel I’d been blacking-out every few minutes?
The make new “Dunes” every year during hurricane season at the beaches.
However, I’m still in love with Sean Young.
Oh no doubt. Fat floating homosexual ephebophile villains just aren’t going to work in 2020. Just like how upcoming black actors can’t get cast as burglars in home security commercials in 2020.

I’d rather have a good Starship Troopers movie.
Ironically, someone COULD do that with “Time Enough for Love” and be faithful to the source material.
I think The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress would make a great mini-series.
Yup. Fred Saberhagen.

It’s one of the myriad possible explanations as to why the universe seems so empty. Because if anyone does any thing too advanced, they then get noticed. And something comes and exterminates them.

What are you saying, that the 1997 Verhoeven version wasnt good?! :-)
I’ll watch it. I LOVED the first one. Especially the 4 hour version.
SPICE!
The 1984 movie was generally pretty good.
The new one, which has been under production for some time, is cinematically spectacular.
Not sure I like this incarnation of Paul, though.
