If this is accurate, it won’t be the first time I was wrong.
What I’d like to know is how was it he exited that vehicle and struggled with them, yet they never saw the gun in his hand?
“”The driver refused to exit the vehicle despite the use of de-escalation techniques and non-lethal force, including pepper spray and a taser. As Sergeant Johnson and the other officer continued their attempts to remove the driver, the man reached under the driver’s seat and retrieved a handgun.””

I watched the remainder of the video. Not much they could have done with that situation with training available at the time in that jurisdiction.
Police need to start training to disable a vehicle after a driver’s first refusal to leave the vehicle. That would prevent a drive-away and some liability. Then they can tell the driver to get out and lay on the ground (on the belly, spread out) while waiting for backup.
More late night backup available and better communication between agencies would also help.
Iam not sure that you are wrong. Either way, he didn’t get out of that car because of the gun. Most important is that it was not the officer’s weapon.
This situation is similar to many of the White Officer shoots Black Man incidents. When Blacks look at this video do they have a problem with the way it was handled? Do they look at this video and realize if they just listen to the Cops then maybe they won’t get shot?
Do Blacks look at this differently because everyone is white and they are not blinded by assumed racism?
Life isn’t that tough if you show respect and follow rules, if you don’t sometimes life is short.
It reminds me of the Atlanta Wendy’s video. The cops talked and talked and talked trying to reason with the guy and then the guy fights them and took a shot at one of the cops with the taser.
I heard the shot officer screaming but did not hear a gunshot. The gun must have had a silencer.
Law enforcement departments have probably already looked into this, but some sort of instant, non-lethal, immobilizing foam that instantly hardens on the suspect, would be very effective in keeping him from squirming around and reaching into his waistband for something. Better than a tazer.
Tasers only have an effective rate of about 50%.

Failures to subdue even happen with bare skin contact.
Yeah, I guess this twerp will get the glory he strives for . . . in his glory hole.
There has to be something else that works. We are at a crisis level of the public ignoring police orders and fighting the cops, either the perp ends up dead or the cops.
If somebody could invent something that would disable a non compliment suspect then they would be as wealthy as the person that comes up with the COVID-19 vaccine.
Easy to say in hindsight but I think one officer should’ve grabbed both his ankles and yanked him out of the seat feet first.
That video was scary. The perp would just not stop running his mouth. Worse yet, he appeared perfectly sober and lucid, even trying to present some sort of half-baked legal argument about how his “rights” were being violated. No response to reason whatsoever. No amount of persuasion was effective.
I’ve seen him before.
This is 2.5 months old.
If the killer had a gun under his seat, then the police in the Blake shooting have a solid defense for their shooting him, as a threat to them and his kids.
Yep, that’s the way it has to be otherwise look what happens. Today a cop even touch a perp some sh^tbag comes along with a camera and the other shtbags in the media promote and then the cop gets fired for doing what SHOULD be done just like this shtbag in the car who wouldn’t step out and the cop with the taser ended up dead when he should have been allowed to beat the F out of that little prick. FORTY times he was told to step out of the car.
Havent verified it, but I have read that tasers have been downgraded in power because of several deaths due to underlying conditions. You are right about the nightsticks, a couple PR 24s beating a paradiddle on the POS would have been an excellent incentive for an attitude adjustment.
Yes- the perp photo was released right after his arrest. The video was just released & is the new info in the story.
