“Believe it or not, weight isnt much of a factor in top speed, though it does affect acceleration. Ask anyone whos built a car to run at Bonneville.”
I remember one record setting car that had a huge load of dry ice on board to for cooling. The weight was less of a handicap than the drag from ducting cooling air would have been.
I also remember Car & Driver doing a top speed test of several cars at the Transportation Research Center near the end of the 1980’s. One of them was a heavily modified Callaway Corvette, and in order to keep the rear end planted they had 200 pounds of sand bags in the rear hatch.
C4 Corvettes are known for rear end lift at high speeds, and for a top speed run this was probably the best solution.
Lake Park West?
Yep. We used to hunt rabbits along Army Trail back when it was two lanes and gravel west of Gary. Took our shotguns to school on the bus and left them in the office. Had to bring a note from mom to get on a different bus.
Apparently there was a social media post about free food, free beer, and free drugs at that party. Cant imagine why things went south. Rumor has it the Roselle Village Board is not amused and is working on an ordinance that will ban short term rentals in town.
We still live in the area. Mrs. L takes that street as a shortcut home from her office. It was a nice, quiet, well to do area.

200 pounds of sand bags in the rear hatch...
In my youth, I was sent to traffic school.
Mostly a collection of grisly photos that I have not forgotten.
The late driver had a fender bender with a bowling ball on the rear ledge.
The ball did not stop and proceeded through the driver’s head.
Yes, the sandbags would be lower, but an estimated trajectory seldom comes with a guarantee.
