Sullivan was sort of a conservative for a few years after 9/11/2001. He had a blog he called “The Daily Dish” and was pretty conservative for a time. But, whatever year it was, W proposed a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Sullivan, being gay, flipped out and that seemed to end his dalliance with conservatism for the several years after 9/11.
Haven’t kept up with him and have no idea what he’s been writing in the years since.
So you missed his obsession with Trig Palin? Back in 2011 he couldn't stop asserting that Trig was not Sarah Palin's son. It was insane.
Sullivan is HIV+, and I wonder how much the disease or his medications affected him.
He was once a good writer. If he was never quite a conservative, he was at least willing to articulately criticize parts of the left. That alone will get him canceled these days.
I think he earned most of his early conservative points after 9/11 when took a critical, very non-PC view of Islam. I recall the stories about Trig Palin not being Sarah's son, but didn't remember which writers bought into it.
I still haven't heard a good explanation of why he left New York Magazine, but read that it might be that he'd become too critical of the current cancel culture. Guess his final article in that rag is to be tomorrow, with an explanation of why he left.
