Nope, just interested in stats.
Our impression now is that riots always grow out of protests and that no one does anything about them
I want to see if thats an exaggerated impression due to media coverage.

Thats pretty shocking from Houston. Thats always made out to be demographic central of TX, esp. since Katrina.

Believe it or not, Louisville defused a very dangerous situation. 200 cars filled with protestors tried to drive in a caravan to take the riots to the suburbs and were deftly routed by the police away and back down town.

I have heard reports of fire trucks getting pelted by bricks in Houston.

If true, it's still pretty tame compared to what happened in other cities, and remarkable for the 4th largest city in the country.
I think there were some recent factors at play: Hurricane Harvey, the recent floods from rainstorms, the Astros World Series and subsequent cheating scandal, and a general pride by the residents of their city to not let it fall into disarray.

From what Ive read and seen on the telly, Phoenix had one or two days of rioting. Then the protest leaders talked with the police. The following days and nights of protests were peaceable, with very few arrests.
I live in Phoenix. The main problem at first was in the upscale mall in tony Scottsdale, not Phoenix proper. Some activity in Phoenix itself, and the threat was taken seriously. Concrete barriers and concertina wire were placed near the state Capitol, and for a while, a lot of police cars. A curfew was called so that the "protests" wouldn't happen after dark, like they do in Seattle.
The barriers are still around the Capitol and the street is still closed off. I know because my church is around the corner from the Capitol, and I am forced to take a longer route. I have seen since then some gatherings in the park near the Capitol after dark, but with a healthy police presence to ensure that the protests don't devolve into riots. Phoenix has a low black population, so the bigger threat always has to be Antifa types piggybacking on the Floyd tragedy.

An open letter to the citizens of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho from Mayor Steve Widmyer and the City Council, June 5, 2020.

As a rioter, you really don’t want to mess with the Harris County sheriff’s department, they don’t take shit off nobody.

Lots of places never got started because they knew that it would not work out well for them...
I'm on the MS Gulf Coast and it's been normal - lots of armed citizens and I would imagine the casinos would really be pissed if local authorities allowed rioters to loot/burn/destroy/block things. Atlantic city had "it going on" May 31 and the cops backed 'em down...I'd wager :-) most big casino areas won't allow much to happen/escalate.

North Charleston, SC. Had a major police presence before their march started and they had to behave themselves. Wasn’t many people in the march as the leftist bagmen probably didn’t think the place was big enough for their hired hands.

Update. July 4th a family was beat up at pcb by a truck load of black guys with obvious racial motivation. They pulled up next to the families car and started changing clothes. When asked to do it somewhere the kids couldn’t see they attacked. All are charged.

As a rule, Texas sheriff’s are a lot less tolerant of this kind of crap.
