I’m not sure why my English grandma reminds me of grandma seeing as how she was white and English, but every time I see Hattie McDaniel in that role, I think of her.

I surely wish I had a picture of her, but cameras were barely invented and surely not for poor folks like us when I was a child. The closest I can come to describing her is “Mammy” in the movie. I see her in Hattie’s looks, manner and voice.
