I saw GnR open for the Stones back in the 90's. About mid set, Axl starts babbling about one of their band members (think drummer) was leaving because of drugs and incompatibility with the band, or something to that effect.
After the Stones finished their big intro song, Jagger said, "How about GnR? [applause] They should have played more and talked less". [silence] The Stones fired them for the rest of that tour, IIRC. No one upstages Jagger, especially not a punk like Axl Rose. They went downhill from there. Now they are just another reformed nostalgia band, while the Stones could still fill stadiums.
I only liked Appetite For Destruction, One In A Million, and much of the Use Your Illusion, but never really considered them a favorite. They never were good enough to even come close to growing dental floss or banging Camarillo nutcases or trying to take over the world at the Falcum with Galut Cologna.

I have to admit, I really liked and still do “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. Nice intro, good melody, memories of youth lyrics, nice bridge with lead guitar. I think it took off because being similar to many Stones hits (especially Gimme Shelter), plus MTV was the rage and so was big hair. Please don’t beat me up.

G ‘n R peaked early. Nothing that came after Appetite was even close - and I say that having at one point owned all their releases through The Spaghetti Incident.
So what’s the deal? Does he have a concert coming up or a new release coming out soon? Trying to become relevant again?
