Well don't forget that 'sound mind".

My God given brain tells me things like, "Danny there's a train coming, get off the tracks."

"Danny their is a dangerous virus circulating, maybe you should stay home."

The context of that verse is sharing the gospel.

6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.

Okay, so you’re either well read or really good at looking up things on the Internet. Congratulations. You taught me something.

Influenza falls under Orthomyxoviridae. This includes the H*N* subtypes and this also includes the 1918 Spanish Flu, which was an H1N1 subtype. This also happens to be the media’s favorite pandemic to use as a reference, which is intellectually dishonest since, as you’ve so succinctly pointed out, COVID =/= influenza.

Coronaviruses are respiratory illnesses but not all cases present with respiratory issues. Influenza can present with respiratory issues, but it doesn’t always. The most consistent trait between the two is fever, but even then, fever presents in <90% of COVID-19 cases. Influenza often has a very swift onset of symptoms while COVID-19 could be asymptomatic for the entirety of the infection.

Bottom line is that the symptoms presented between the typical flu and COVID-19 are very similar, and with a recovery rate over 95%, COVID-19 is arguably more survivable than even the common flu. So yeah, when we say, “It’s just the flu bro,” in a way, we’re diminishing the impact of this latest bête-noir and getting to the point that even you brought up: if you’re infected or high-risk, stay home. Otherwise, let’s get back to work!
