Well I have no idea if it is true or not, but I have always heard that one of the band's early members (Nik Turner?) had this gross habit of loudly "hocking" up a ball of phlegm, and also breaking wind in a loud and very smelly manner, usually at the same time. Hence, "hawk wind."

Some might expect the name to have come from some weird science fiction novel or obscure eastern religion, but... err... no.

I’ve always enjoyed their music.

Truly an underrated band in the US. One of my favorites. I even considered using the name Florian for one of my children. My husband, who is an even bigger fan, soundly vetoed that idea. Good call. 😂

Crazy that was released in 1977 and it sounds timeless. My favorite song from Trans-Europe Express is Hall of Mirrors.

David Bowie gave tribute, in the song “V-2 Schneider”, off of “Station to Station”.

Yeah, I graduated from high school in 1977 and I’ll never forget driving down the Esplanade of Chico, California, and first hearing “Showroom Dummies” from Trans-Europe Express. Having bought the album, though, I thought the only bad song was “Hall of Mirrors.” Haha! Now, decades later, I’ve come to appreciate it. No, it can’t hold a candle to the title track or “Europe Endless” or the tweaked Schubert melody, but I don’t hate it now. It grew on me.

Good list. My favorite album was Computer World.

First heard them in college in 1978. Loved it.

I also loved Rick Wakeman before that in high school.

Will the Power Station go dark after all these years or continue on with a new generation setting the controls like Tangerine Dream after the death of Edgar Froese. R.I.P.
