An experienced ER nurse from a Portland has volunteered and gone to NYC to help out at different hospitals.

She has reported that every hospital treating Covid patients has a refrigerated van outside for receiving bodies of Covid victims.

“Welcome to FR, wildcard.

You haven’t addressed the virility of this Wuhan Flu, only the economic impact....which, no one, here (that I know of), denies.

Rather than reply to Travis with insults, why not post links to support your statement? That could, potentially, open up a dialogue avenue.

Also, are you saying that Pres Trump is a “fear monger” for shutting down HIS created economy...the best economy in decades?

The name calling, without any support/source/back up is getting old, here.

Especially from n00bs who attack a longtime, well respected FReeper.”

This is rich. You try to lambast me for name calling for saying “fearful one” which is not name calling and then go on to call me a ‘n00b’. The word ‘fearful’ is an adjective descriptive of behavior or attitude and ‘one’ is a neutral pronoun with no negative connotation whatsoever. Referring to Travis McGee as ‘Travis McGullible’ is not name calling either, it is a play on words that basically means that i think he is gullible. What you really find objectionable is sarcasm which is a has a long and proud tradition as an American art form that is despised in the age of the Social Justice Warrior.

Many of the Freepers who hype the deadlines of the WuFlu are as a group fearful, very sensitive, and ready to attack.

Regarding President Trump, I think the deep state has played him by leveraging his well-known germaphobia preventing him from stopping many state governors from purposefully destroying the best economy we had in decades which is a tragedy.

Furthermore I believe that Covid-19 was spreading in America in early January if not before. That means that Americans Covid – 19 season has been three months long it is not spreading as fast as alarmists claim. Furthermore Covid-19 is no more deadly than a regular flu.

Here is my source:

“These doubts have a strong foundation. Data from sailing vessels showed COVID-19 infecting 13.8% to 19% of the population. Terrestrial randomized serological testing shows that COVID-19 has already infected between 14% and 30% of the population, with an infection fatality rate (IFR) lower than influenza and in some studies, approaching that of common colds, 0.04%. Moreover, the numbers mesh together, suggesting that somewhere around 80% of people are completely immune to COVID-19. Not antibody immune, but zoonotic virus immune. Wrong species. COVID-19 is 96% genetically identical to a known SARS-like coronavirus collected from bats.”

“If China had millions of cases by Christmas, it was certainly spreading around the US by January. As recently recognized by the CDC, the first COVID-19 deaths were in California, in early February, and likely acquired from communal infection in mid-January.”

= = =

Seems there’s a lot of that sensitivitiy going on, around here. You were ready to attack that poster.

You namecalled and attempted to ‘fear shame’ someone who took the time to post information that they researched.

I suggested you try doing the same....by providing sources, to that poster, to open dialogue rather than just do drive by name calling to them.

And, I’ll note that you think “the deep state has played POTUS by leveraging his well-known germaphobia preventing him from stopping many state governors from purposefully destroying the best economy we had in decades”.

Many folks here, and elsewhere believe this horrid flu, that was unleashed by the ChiComs, has been here in the US for months.

Heck, flights with 20K Chinese were arriving, here, on a regular basis, until POTUS put the ban on such flights. No telling how long they had it, there and sent infectors out, across the globe....since they won’t open their lab and share any info.

OT....just curious....were you ever a poster, here, before your wildcard/2018 sign up?

There was a Portland TV news item about her. I forgot the channel and didn’t catch her name. I’ll try to catch it again.

She worked for Providence St. Vincent hospital in Portland.

All her patients are Covid. She will be a good resource when she returns.

What you’ve just done is the equivalent of charting hurricane deaths in Louisiana for five years leading up to Katrina.

No. What the author at the Financial Time has done is the equivalent of plotting all deaths in New Orleans per week for the past five years and then showing a spike in the present year coincident with Katrina hitting New Orleans. This is to put the lie to the hurricane-bros that hey, it's just another storm, and people die and these folks had co-morbidities and couldn't swim and couldn't lift heavy beams off their crushed bodies and were going to die anyway and its not the fault of the corrupt city fathers and the incompetent corps of engineers who couldn't build sound dikes.

Which all misses the point that coincident with Katrina there was a large spike in mortality the cause of which needs to be explained, which explanation you can't offer and excuse it by trying to say there is nothing to explain.

Matt,

On that graph it states that the numbers in grey are for all deaths from 1970 through 2019. I presume the vertical lines in grey are the clusters of numbers for those years inclusive.

I see a couple of years, the specific year not mentioned or indicated, where there were 21+K deaths in (presumed)January, see the dot under the D of the word "death".

Seems that year there was a pretty high death rate in January.

Not saying 22K deaths is not serious, however, it is 5% higher than that other stat, indicating there were other times when deaths spiked rather high as well.

I wonder what was the cause for that particular number?

Also would be informative to correlate the highs and lows with the particular population at that time, as a percent of deaths per capita.

I would not be surprised to find a more rapid death count in a population that has experienced a more rapid population growth,

especially an influx to the degree that Europe has experienced since the muslim invasions under pretext of war fleeing,

as a partial explanation for the 5% increase in deaths this year compared to that one particular data point in January of the unknown year sitting at 21K

What, me? Never. I just fell off the turnip wagon and I stand in awe of the wisdom of the Fearpers.

I am afraid that during this “pandemic“ that there are a lot of preppers who so want to be right about TEOTWAWKI.

NYC - mid-February to mid-April, 15000 more deaths than normal.

4-6 week backlog at crematoriums.

https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2020/04/30/coronavirus-toll-nycs-cremation-backlog-blamed-for-overwhelmed-funeral-homes-dozens-of-found-corpses/

Let me guess - people killing themselves by jumping out of windows due to the stay-at-home rule.

One claim is that people that are having a heart attack or other condition are afraid to go to the hospital, and die rather than what normally would have been a treatable condition.

I’m sure that accounts for a few of the increased in deaths. I’m guessing it is pretty low though. And the lack of people at the ER is also due to less folks out and about getting injured, and the fear of Covid-19 that is keeping the poor people out of the ER that treat it like a doctor’s office.

Hmm. Folks not calling 911 for a heart attack and die - that’s probably balanced out by the fewer number of car deaths and other accidents.

As opposed to what un-preppers so want?
