Good luck with that finding made in America
Not likely to much either. One needs to stop and think about why so much of our manufacturing went to China and Mexico and other slave labor market countries in the first place. When the reasons can be analyzed and resolved manufacturing is not likely going to ever return back to America. Americans want 'cheap' products but are not willing to take 80% to 90% pay cuts to work in the manufacturing plants to make the products. Cheap labor equals cheap products. Producers/Manufacturers can't afford to pay American high wages that they demand.
Trying to do that for years, best I can, for everything
Never any food items
That too.
Great tip. Thanks. We ALL need to pass along tips like that, and keep them somewhere they can be accessed.
Unfortunately there will be a lot of things you want be able to buy. There are things that will never come back to the US to be manufactured. It costs too much to be in business here. The American people love the virus smelling Dollar stores.
With that attitude we’re screwed. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If companies realize that they can’t sell products made in China then they’ll have to move elsewhere, even if not here.
Giving up and throwing in the towel means China wins. As their economy grows they’ll, inevitably, become the #1 economy in the world. What then? Do you really believe they’ll be a kind and peaceful player? Once they no longer need the USA what then?
It will take a major project to turn it around. I'm all for it, but how do we do it?
I’ve been a bit surprised with the “surrender” attitude of some here. As though change isn’t even possible. I suppose not if that is their sentiment.
I’d think the first step is to try and make as many as possible start boycotting, publicly, China products. I get that change won’t happen over night, but we didn’t get where we are over night either.
Large corporations need pressure to move elsewhere. Even if not in the USA, just somewhere else - that’d be a good start. We need some leadership in D.C. as well. Maybe some new laws around national security and manufacturing. Start to build a culture of buy “Made in USA” and be proud of it.
Unless that happens we have a self-fulfilling prophecy and it isn’t good for the entire world.
Chinese use slave labor for many exported items.
Not that I agree with their methods, but price and profitability drive manufactures buying decisions....
The CCP must be crushed
Like the tanks in Tienanmen square crushed their own people. ?
The Chinese don't adhere to western christian values.
WRONG.
CONSUMER BUYING DECISIONS drive manufacturing & business decisions.
To just accept the way things are means we’ll lose. This is also about national security, not just jobs or punishing them.
It is now obvious we MUST change.
If everyone shared one social media “Don’t buy ‘Made in China’”. Put social pressure on people to not buy from China. It doesn’t have to be “Made in USA” but if we just all lived by this idea China can’t win.
The solution is longer-term - to change the conditions that drove big manufacturing offshore in the first place, using a carrot-and-stick approach. Trump used the stick very nicely on 3M and GM recently, but there have to be carrots, too. Offering those carrots means confronting and defeating unions, environmentalists, and local/regional taxing authorities...and yes, that is going to be a long, hard job.
Unless we start trying there will never be any change.
I’m getting tired of the excuses being given here.
Really ?
Chinese made widget X costs $.15
American made widget X costs $.25
Factor in shipping of $.03 per widget from China via third party to America
Same widget or close....
Who gets the sale?????
Consumer buy what is on the shelf. Companies buy what is most profitability
Wow - I’m talking about CHANGING MINDS. Don’t just buy the cheapest thing - there are often USA made options. You’re not even willing to try.
Keep buying the cheapest widget and screw over your fellow American.
Great attitude. We MUST change our buying decisions and be public about pressuring others to do so as well. Otherwise, yes, we’ll never get anywhere...but not even trying guarantees a result.
