Agreed. As a stand-alone. Jakes is decent.
He was molested by his 13-year-old baby sitter? How was he a victim?
Polanski ? His childhood was horrible (during WW2), mother murdered at Auschwitz, he himself a survivor of the Krakow Ghetto, and his wife and unborn child were butchered by Charles Manson’s disciples. Up until the 1970s, he enjoyed the sympathy of the public because of that. That’s why I said he turned from victim to victimizer with what he did to that young girl.
Oh. Didn’t know all that about him. I hear the drugged and molested 13-year-old in hot tub, and just stop there. No interest in seeing any of his movies, ever. Although I did see Rosemary’s Baby when I was eight and understood nothing. My father and I had a week of quality time alone, and he took me to see his kind of movies. So long as I had some popcorn, candy and coke I was good.
Oh, he’s unquestionably in the top tier of filmmakers of the past century. “Chinatown” is probably my personal favorite of his works. “Frantic” is another.
For some, it’s difficult to separate the person from their works. I’ve found it harder to watch anything now with Robert DeNiro, since his utter derangement and vile hatred directed at our President is Satanic. I can still watch Woody Allen films, even knowing he’s far from a moral paragon.
The Pianist is a good film too, although I wish somebody other than Polanski had done it. The late Andrzej Wajda would have been perfect.
Polanski, though, obviously was one of the few who could personally understand the subject matter.
I don’t get to watch movies at all. Can’t interest myself. No problem watching Breaking Bad or The Plot Against America, though. Just no time for it.
Well, watching the movies in the comfort of your own home. I wouldn’t go out to the movies since I value my hearing.
Impy was discussing the fictional political world of the series you cited, “The Plot Against America”, in this thread:

At any rate, I have to disagree with regards to Polansky’s palatability. He didn’t just commit a “moral lapse”. He humped a child who was under the influence of drugs. Nothing even resembling consent. That’s like Bill Cosby crossed with Michael Jackson. There are old movies that I love, but they’re really really old. Chaplin, Mel Brooks, Kubrik...
I’m not excusing his actions. You don’t drug and sodomize a 13-year old. Period.
Especially not when Jeff Epstein had a whole stable of 13-year-olds just waiting to be sodomized-}
A few decades too late.
He was ahead of his time./s
Something else they’ll screw up. Why do they want to make a prequel to “Chinatown” ?
Yes and because known entities sell.
Theres already a ready made market for them.
