That was...harrowing.

In the dark, in the wind that threatened to blow me into the opposite hillside, with dust and tumbleweeds obstructing my view, I crawled my way to Walmart over a strange road.

Coming back was only slightly better because it was light enough to actually see the amount of dust as well as hear it hit the windshield, and see the tumbleweeds racing along with the dust. I had to slow down to avoid one which was as big as the truck. No exaggeration.

I didn’t need much at Walmart but it was still more than I planned on. And I wouldn’t have made it to next Tuesday, if I hadn’t gone today.

There’s a reason I like to say, “Don’t die!” as people leave the house.

Speaking of dying and Walmart, I need some stuff, and Pat needs to drive. Unnngh.

Unfortunately, Gonzo and Camilla haven’t yet learned to say, “Don’t die!” when I leave the house. Some days, they scream at me when I head for the door but other days, meh.

The temperature has dropped quite a bit and I need to go out in it soon. Post orifice and library punctuated by the bank for quarters that I didn’t get last week, and the gas station for the gas I didn’t get then, either. I don’t want to go out in the wind, but I have to get Sam’s birthday card in the mail so there is at least a chance he will get it by Saturday. Mail crosses the AR state line and immediately gets picked up by mule train.

I’m relieved you Cheated Death Again!

I, on the other hand, decided to forego the outing for today. The migraine that assaulted me last night has decided to stick around for a while. The temperature is now 60°, from yesterday’s high of 105°, and although I’m dressed warmly, I just can’t get warm.

It’s probably all the stress of the lost books and the Black Hole of Cabot that have helped to bring the headache on, but I think it’s a combination of everything. Plus the fact that I just can’t seem to get anything done, once I’ve done the laundry. Everything from that point on seems to be in stasis. I told the doc at the pain clinic that I didn’t know if it was CFIDS, old age or laziness, but housework seems a monumental task.

After some personal time with Jake, I’m going to take Pat to work and then Kathleen to her riding lesson.

I found out why my bedroom was so much warmer this summer. The tape that holds the plastic in place over the swamp cooler vent had come loose, and was letting hot air into the bedroom. So I retaped it and now I’m listening to the plastic flapping against the vent housing. I guess there are worse things.

The Muppet Birds have been changed, fed and watered, and that’s the end of what can be done with a blinding headache. And since it’s also affecting my vision, I need to close while I’m ahead.

No call from the AR branch of the Kidlets, yesterday, but plenty of texts from the CO contingent. As always. Until her day starts and then silence...(DiL has yet to learn that the response, “Quiet,” to the question, “How was your holiday?” is a euphemism for, “I spent it alone, with no calls, visitors, or invitations out.”)

I hope your nap with Jake is refreshing, and that you have a good evening.

So the office pulled one of my guards.
I now have to cover two of his days.
That leaves me with one day “off” which doesn’t give me much time for anything.
AND the office keeps playing games on my guard and my pay as they don’t want to pay the overtime.
But this area sucks job wise, I’m literally trapped here with no way out of NY.
The finances aren’t there.
I hate NY.

I had a job like that, once. Unemployment was looking better and better, even though it would be a drastic cut in pay.

When people are greedy and selfish like the company you work for, they end up getting the “return” in spades. We don’t often see that, but just knowing that it’s a real option does wonders for the morale.

I hope things are better for you soon, Darks, and that another job presents itself in the near future.

Yes! He’s in his second week as a stocker at Walmart, working 2 to 11 p.m. five days a week. He won’t be paid until a week from Friday, but that’s okay because he has no expenses (yet).

Pretty face, peeking out of the covers...

Good morning.

The shower has been had, and I think it’s time for me to have some tea. The migraine is settling in, now. But I still have to function.

Now that the castle is finished, what’s on the docket for today? And as an afterthought, where is your vacation this year?

I had several things planned, leftover from yesterday, but I don’t know if they’re going to get done. The USPS and library are absolute musts.

The temp is in the 50’s and I had to turn on the heater in the kitchen for the birds. They can survive some cold, but I’d rather not subject them to it, if I don’t have to. I also had to buy a space heater yesterday, and I’m glad I did. This place is very cold this morning.

It sounds as though someone is stirring upstairs.

The Patrick Driving Event will go up to the Platkos’ with food for the homeless. We also need to get to the library. Post Office wouldn’t be a bad idea, either: I have some comic books to send to Elen, USMC.

The vacation is going to Fripp Island, SC.

What kind of comic books does Elen, USMC like you send her? Just curious, of course!

I’m not even a week into this tea cycle and already, I wish there were an alternative. The pains I’ve had this time make me realize that I should never, ever again, miss the start of the cycle by even one day.

The bed still has to be made, but that can be done in a few minutes. Then I need to get a package ready to send to one of my nieces in ID. I may delay it, because it’s the Downton Abbey set of DVDs. I bought them when the show was first airing, and when those of us on fixed incomes were still able to almost live without being pushed to the wire on payday. (As an example, the COLA raises in January would provide enough extra money for me to visit my Unreal Brother in AZ every year...Not any more. I think the last one was $13.)

I got them out to watch because I was done with what I had gotten from the library, and realized that I hadn’t seen the entire program to conclusion. Some folks can stay up for marathon movie watching, but my body rebels, so I wasn’t able to see the entire drama from the first to the last.

Anyway, to cut the boredom, I may finish watching the entire series before I send them to my niece! ;o]
