A Pioneer is one who crossed the Plains before the railroad did. That’s THE criterion.

Oh, thanks. I hadn’t wondered before today.

I didn’t know either until I decided to join “Daughters of the Utah Pioneers,” and at the first meeting, I asked the question. The answer was rudely given by an older lady, but I thanked her and went on with my day.

It’s like the “Daughters of the American Revolution.” You have to write about an incident that an ancestor had during that time in history before you can be accepted into the group.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the singing group, Sons of the Pioneers. They really were, and whether they were officially sons of Utah Pioneers, I don’t know. But I know there is an organization called “Sons of the Utah Pioneers.”

I think it’s more a status thing, these days, for both groups.

That’s every interesting. I am familiar with the Sons of the Pioneers, but I didn’t know it was Utah Pioneers. I thought it was just general.

There isn’t much that’s sweeter than a couple of cats, no matter their ages, in warm huggle.

Good morning.

Another night of semi-good sleep, but this is the stage where the fatigue takes over, so not much will be on the docket for the day.

I’m almost done winding the yarn, such beautiful stuff, and yes, the sister did spin it. I found a bunch of tiny skeins that she already wrapped, and have set them in an “Alaska Clay” dish she made for me many, many years ago. It’s reddish-brown clay with streaks of white. When its fired, it melts into the different colors. Really gorgeous. Anyway, I thought it was fitting for the yarns. (The tiny skeins look like the two skeins you sent, before I wound them into yarn.)

This article provided things I didn’t know.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sons_of_the_Pioneers

The “Early Success” section provides a wealth of information as to the name.

The fact is, Utah was very fast to adopt them as its own!

Sounds cool. If you had a cat, the yarn would all be in a mess immediately!

Actually, it was in a mess when I took it from the bag!

Some skeins were difficult to find the center, where the tie was, and some used a tie when normally, the opposite ends of the yarn made the tie, so the work has been slow and careful.

There were also a lot of breaks that had to be tied. Had it been a bunch of commercial yarns, the breaks would already have been tied and trimmed. And the thickness isn’t uniform, either. So whatever I make will take some judicious hiding of the ends. The variation in thickness will be taken care of in the knitting process.

I expect you will turn the inconsistencies into a design feature, because you’re an artist.

*blush* Aw, gee. Thanks!

I have a pattern ready to go, but I don’t know if I have enough of the orange to do what I want. And of course, I can’t help but wonder if she used Kool-Aid to dye it that color, like she used to die the dog hair she spun for me. She used grape flavor then, and it came out a beautiful blue-gray. Some things, I’ll never part with until I have to.

Dog-hair items would definitely be a keeper.

I’m not getting a floofy dog, though.

I crocheted a beret and scarf with the dog hair, because I could. The scarf is natural color and the beret is blue-gray. So very nice to work with!!

I will vacuum up this little corner today, as soon as I’m sure it won’t wake up Rocky. Though I never hear a thing from her apartment. Still, I like to be considerate.

Then, while I’m waiting for the flamingos to arrive, I’ll start on a knitted panel for the afghan. I’ll just have to count the rows so I know where to start when I’m done with the other.

I have to run the vacuum before Asuncion gets here at 9:00. What with the camp and all, I’ve fallen behind on Tidiness!

I fall behind when CFIDS gets a head start. I need to write but my mind is gray lint. Something simple like winding yarn is a good exercise.

I might open the box of my Lego set today. Might not. Nothing can go wrong if I haven’t opened the box!

If you don’t open the box if you’re going to be gone for a while then nothing can get out of it (Boggle?) and wreak havoc.

On the other hand, it might be worth a drool or two...

I picked up a blob of the orange yarn that I had put down yesterday when I headed for bed and this morning, it’s a real tangle because I picked it up the wrong way. Unngh.

One more skein of dark yarn and then I can vacuum.

My iPhone is telling me I walked 48,592 steps, 149 miles and climbed 2036 floors yesterday, small wonder I’m tired this morning...
