A simple list of "potential" side effects tells you basically nothing. The things that matter are "how many people have the side effect", and "at what dosage does the side effect manifest". Millions of people have taken the meds with minimal negative consequences.

But the best-loved version of this treatment has involved a combo of Hydroxychloroquine and Zithromax.

The treatment involves both.
The prophylactic is just the antimalarial compound. I can imagine being on that is bad enough long term so added antibiotic resistance and associated GI issues would be a no go for most.
It is one of the most widely taken and routinely safe drugs on the planet. And they are talking about taking an especially low dose as a prophylactic. Certainly a good idea for medical personnel who may be facing high exposure levels.
