It is only a matter of time before your local hospital gets lots of pneumonia patients, mainly 60 plus.

There might be 300,000 infected people at this time in the USA. The vast majority will never get very sick from the coronavirus.

By April the count will probably be over 10 million infected Americans. Maybe 100,000 will be hospitalized.

Most of you are of European extraction. If you are over 60, you might get as sick as an older Italian. Maybe since the US has more children per elderly person, our elderly will get deathly sick at a lower rate.

Hospitals in the US will get overwhelmed. Drugs will have to be used on an experimental basis without full FDA approval to keep people alive.

The necessary legal work should be done by Congress to allow for the experimental use of anti-coronavirus drug candidates.

Team We Don’t Know Yet isn’t permitted.

Well, there are at least two of us on that team. I call first base.

Honestly, anyone acting as if they know how this is all going to play out at this point is full of cr*p.

“Events and gatherings are being canceled/prohibited.”

That’s a perfectly reasonable response.

Our drug companies need time to work their magic.

Mick Jagger has plenty of pounds to live on if a Rolling Stones tour gets cancelled.

We know Keith Richards won't get the virus.

I don’t think they will be that blunt about it.

They have our IRS records, voting records and you combine that with Obamacare, they will be able to put a lot of pressure on political opponants. And if Hillary ever gets in power, well you can figure out what will happen then.

“destroying the American economy”

Judging by the music I’ve heard, some hombres are at work on a neighbor’s house.

They will continue to get and do work.

Not even the world’s most famous Kenyan could destroy the American economy.

Companies will miss their quarterly earnings estimates. It will normally take 20,30 and even 40 years to earn back a share’s purchase price anyway after the shareholder has paid income tax on the dividends. One bad fiscal year means little. Be patient.

Obviously, I am talking about as a whole, not 100%. Don’t you agree we have problem with the fortitude of men in this country? And I fully admit, sometimes when I get angry I may indulge in a bit of hyperbole. :)

Do you support house arrest quarantines and unconstitutional prohibition of gathering, like others here seem too?

You seem like a decent guy based on your posts.

“Now we’re closing Universities full of healthy young people?”

The universities are worried about their hard-to-replace professors.

Gatherings of 100 people are being cancelled. Far below Stone World Tour threshold

Of all the websites I go to, Free Republic is by far the most panicked.

I haven't seen anything here on FR that indicates panic. Sure, there are an awful lot of posts about the Wuhan corona virus, but heck, on this site, if Britany Spears skinned her knee there would at least ten threads, one after the other, on the subject. There are a lot of news junkies here.

Additionally, this virus IS news, if for no other reason than that two countries have ordered massive quarantines and this thing is having a substantial global financial impact. Tracking virus-related events is not unreasonable, especially since we probably have a significant number of Freepers who fall into the high-risk category.

Except when Obama was importing Ebola and people were defying quarantine there was no media outrage or mayoral overreach

Media creating ‘a panic that is far worse’ than coronavirus outbreak

That is exactly right.
+++++
I agree that the media is trying to create a panic. And yes, the reason is certainly Orange Man Bad.

But comparing the panic to the outbreak is just nutty. How many people will be saved if we end the panic today? How many will the virus kill today.

Apples and Oranges and therefore meaningless. Plus the only place I see panic is on the internet. It certainly hasn’t come to my neighborhood yet.

Well yeah...there's been a wussyfication of men for many years...

Yeah...hyperbole is infectious and rampant...thru out... ha!!

I support some house arrest with bombs on their legs that trigger when they leave the house.

No...I do not support of "illegal" gatherings...Sounds like commie talk.

Yeah...I am a decent guy..I'm professional, and polite..but have a plan to kill everyone I meet.

I have credible reports from someone I know and trust of a brawl breaking out over a limited amount of hand sanitizer on the shelf at Walmart.

“I don’t claim to know what’s motivating the media,”

That’s hilarious. Of course he knows. It’s obvious that TDS is much worse than Wuhan virus.

The Hatred that the DemonRats have for President Trump is way out of hand. I do not like the DemonRat Journalists since they never can say the truth anymore.

The takeaway from this virus is that if it were as bad as the media is saying, there is NOTHING our government could do about it except hope that it isn’t really all that bad. Any reasonable step to contain it would be shot down by some leftwing federal judge as “racist” or some other nonsense.

We have no response to this sort of threat. Huge swath of the population dies? So what? Import more Mexicans and Indians. Great.
