Wow didn’t even think about this being a vehicle for spreading the virus- but yeah- not good-
Also- ball games, football, basketball, baseball, etc- stadiums full of people- church services- grocery stores- hospitals, health appointments, rehab centers, food pantry for homeless, inner city outreach programs, loading docks, airports, mass transits-
on and on and on it goes- this virus can not be stopped- isolated IF it really gets goi9ng- so many places where people have to gather around others-
Man went to a medical conference in Times Square and caught it.
How many other healthcare providers were there and how many people in Times Square?
Yesterday we stopped communion and offering a sign of peace to each other. I dont know if this is everywhere else yet.
And if his worshiper’s stuck their dirty fingers into their mouths and eyes before washing them clean, they’ll get sick too... It’s called hygiene... Start practicing it and you should be fine.
They like to shake your hand on your way out of the church. We are watching Mass on tv for the first time in
many years.
At least three characteristics of the wuhan flu that make it worse than the common flu: 1. Zero immunity; 2. Transmissible before systems appear; 3. Length of time it’s able to survive on surfaces.
I live on the West Coast. I have noticed for years that most people do not shake hands here in my area. Is hand shaking an East Coast thing? I have always hated shaking hands with other people, even when I was a little kid. Most people in the world do not shake hands and do not like it when people get too close and look you straight into your eyes. There is a large percentage of the population that do not wash their hands.
LOL, yeah. I thought about that.
Seattle is evil. No doubt about it. This is one of the place in the country where folks could justify killing conservatives among themselves. They’d be find with it.
Been trying to do better in that department myself! Not easy, and I catch myself often wanting to touch my face.
>> Why would he shake hands during communion.
The headline writer, or maybe the editor, is lazy. The article makes it clear that he shook hands after the service, not during communion.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser as of late Monday morning has ordered all attendees of Christ Church Episcopal in Georgetown to self-quarantine after possible exposure. Mayor Bowser further said in urgent televised statements assessing the situation that she is considering declaring a 'state of emergency', but will decide later in the day Monday.
Presumably this will be done in coordination with the governors of Maryland and Virginia. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is due to make a statement at 3:30pm after meeting with Vice President Pence at the White House over the crisis.
Why isnt God protecting them or him?
Our Priest supports the shaking of hands for the Peace, but offered several other options.
at the end of the service most clergy shake hand as the congregants are leaving.
Maybe He is. This newsworthy exposure may have saved his life, or the lives of others. Only the Almighty knows how bad this will be. Exposure now, while medical services are readily available, may not be the worst case scenario. This in the news now may cause others to take necessary precautions thereby saving their own lives.
I say this not knowing anything about the man or his parishioners, or how righteous their church.
Remember:
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)
Discontinuing the handshake at the peace makes sense. But I believe it is certainly possible to continue Communion without exposing people to the virus indiscriminately. Those at high risk should not be at public events and that includes Mass. The parish should also limit the number of Extraordinary Ministers so that only the priest and maybe one or two others is distributing communion. Much easier to make sure a small number of persons follow proper sanitation procedures.
How does a priest shake hands during communion? And why?
yup- all good points- once a vaccine is created, people will have immunity from it- partially at least- so it won’t be so severe- but until then, it’s gonna spread rapidly for hte reasons you listed-
Is God expected to suspend the laws of nature for everyone or just this man? God did not create chaos. His universe is a marvel to behold. Revealing His glory to all who are not blind. Most of all it is by mankind’s sin that illness entered this life. And it is by mankind’s hands and wisdom that so many illnesses are defeated. Are they not guided by God?
Maybe just some confusion over communion in the hand, or shaking hands after services? I’m Protestant. We often shake hands after church, before church, and even during church. :)
