The mainstream news has the number of people in China on lockdown or quarantine at 750 million - almost half their population.

That has to be the largest quarantine in the history of man.
But its just the flu. Lol.
I think there is some reason to be optimistic, though we probably have to credit pretty aggressive steps taken to slow the spread, including screening, higher level precautions by those interacting with potentially infected, quarantines, and general awareness of the threat. Add in better medical care, and we are at great advantage over those at "ground zero".
If it does spread widely, those "aggressive" steps will seem insufficient and the finger pointing will never end, while if it doesn't spread, people will call it an overreaction.
“I think there is some reason to be optimistic”
Looks like has very badly run corrupt government. They are a lot like the democrats.
Start Date...
According to The Lancet medical journal:
01 December 2019 was the first day someone presented with symptoms.
A second person presented on 08 December.
Seven more presented before 18 December.
About half of the first presenters were linked to an open air wholesale food market.
I was reading that the last time there was a city quarantine was the Middle Ages. I’m guessing the population of the world was less than 750 million.
I am sorry to hear that.. All the best to you and yours...
Scary times.. Kind'a makes you want to put lambs blood on your doorpost....
amen
What I keep looking for in the west is the recovery rate. So far its 3 out of 15 in the US. Its been almost 3 weeks from our first case so whats the status on the other 12, I wonder?
Singapore which many are calling the bell weather to the US (about 2 weeks ahead) have had 75 cases, 5 critical, 19 recovered.
Coronavirus is very contagious but well get past this epidemic, top pharma CEO says
Published Fri, Feb 14 2020
The new strain of coronavirus that has created a deadly epidemic in China is a lot more contagious than the flu, a top pharma CEO told CNBC.
What we have all learned is that the virus leads to a lower mortality than the flu virus, but its a lot more contagious, the virus is very contagious, he said. I will not say its totally controlled yet, but Im hoping that over the next few months that we will see it get under control.
Curious...does it say when the first one died?
The CDC figures for influenza in 2018 are significantly lower than Coronavirusbased on published numberswhich everyone thinks are crap low.
I guess when its over well see.
I understand. I am worried too for my wife has a very rare Cancer (ACC of the trachea), this would kill her.
Lung pre-existing conditions are a major problem for people who get COVID-19.
I have Idiopathic Pulminary Fibrosis and would not expect to survive it as I approach 85 .
For that matter I wouldn't expect to survive the regular flu.
But life goes on, and lets get out there and keep on going. -Tom
Saw that a couple days ago. He seems to be the only one making such a claim, and is far from other estimates. Unfortunately, once someone makes such a statement, whether it’s overly optimistic or overly pessimistic, it will be repeated everywhere.
I think one of the problems with trying to find mortality in this case is that people are receiving care at extreme ends of the spectrum. Those in Wuhan are receiving care in an overwhelmed system that likely cannot save them if they are critical. Most patients in countries with only a small number of cases are getting care and attention far, far beyond what a typical patient can expect to receive.
Sure does.
Think: it’s only after 2 months of the outbreak that China was able to even apply 1918 technology against the virus!
I don’t trust any numbers from China and don’t think we’ll ever know numbers from the first month of the outbreak.
