That award usually goes to a Democrat politician: Jimmy Carter, Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Al Franken. Al Gore's book also won, but he didn't read the audiobook. One Republican won - Everett Dirksen - but that was a very long time ago.

Other winners have been celebrities. Earlier, when spoken word recordings were much rarer the winners were more varied, but now there are so many audiobooks out there that nobody listens to them all and makes an honest comparison of them all.

The real award for audiobooks is the Audies. They actually do try to find the best fiction and non-fiction audiobooks in several different categories. I suppose you could find some bias in their selections, but they aren't always just awarding liberal politicians.
