[[but thats the same frankly as some of the other great male leads like Gable, and Eastwood, Harrison Ford and even Brad Pitt]]
The difference though is that those actors had genres modeled for their unique personalities- Decaprio tries to play too many varied parts- and just doesn’t pull them off- Decaprio doesn’t have a particular meme that his persona fills- other than perhaps psycho- but even that is a stretch from what I’ve seen him do- he just overacts those parts in my opinion-
My view of him isn’t going to evolve any- I’ve seen him in far too many roles, and I’m just not impressed with how he comes across -
Denero is a scumbag- filthy foul mouthed person filled with hate- but he could act and portray a character well- I personally however won’t watch his movies now because of his vile public life- I don’t care ow good he was- but that is my own personal decesion- not based on acting ability- Won’t watch John Cusack movies again either-for the same reason- nothing to do with his acting ability-
decaprio however, I have to judge his acting prowess coupled with his personal life- I could have overlooked the personal life politics, but the acting just doesn’t cut it with me-
Agree with the watching Leo contention. Tom Cruise is another like that, where their on screen persona typically cannot overcome who they are in real life in the eyes of the viewer. My 20 yr old child is a huge movie buff and we watched A Few Good Men while she was home for the holidays. She loved it and said for the first time ever she didnt feel like she was watching Tom Cruise in a Tom Cruise movie. Can certainly be difficult for an actor to be able to arc over themselves and into a character. Christian Bale usually manages to do so, Batman trilogy aside.
Good point about the less you know about them, the better.
I actually thought she was entertaining....
Why bother? You've seen one Scorsese hoodlum/mob movie, you're seen them all - including the same actors. I'm not going to bother with The Irishman even when it gets to cable because of the aforementioned reason. Oh gee whiz Mr. Famous Super Director, now your mob is from Ireland WITH the same actors? This guy must have hundreds of screen plays that cross his or an assistant's desk every week, and he can't find something else to direct? Pfft.
Echo that.
Im probably going to watch The Irishman at some point, and Im not sure why. I guess because Ive been told to and Im a sheep. Definitely feel like Ive already seen it before having watched it.
Let me know what you think of The Irishman.
Definitely want to see “Parasite” after a couple of friends saw it.
I watched this last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually wish it were longer and slower. It does the time machine thing so well and with such vibe that I just wanted to sort of dwell in it. Not sure if it’s been mentioned but the movie is jampacked with great cars. If you’re a car guy, you will like it. Great performances all around IMO and DiCaprio was fantastic. I thought he did a better job than usual of stepping out of himself and into the character. He was so good that I’m having to up my evaluation of him as an actor. Super satisfying ending. Overall it’s a tale of two buddies and you find yourself really liking both of them. I think I might watch it again just to catch all of the little “easter eggs”. It’s been a great year for movies.
Better the second and third time....
I thought 1917 was an artsy fartsy POS like Dungkirk.
I do too. Horrible waste of time. That fat lead with the fluffy hairdo? But Im getting slammed for saying so
I hear theres a version out w extra scenes.
His best performance was as an autistuc child in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape? All downhill from there. I thought he phoned it in for ...Hollywood. Pitts understated performance was better.
Sounds interesting. I watched it again this weekend, and again the standout for me was DiCaprio, who I’ve never been a fan of. That saloon scene with Dalton as “Dakotu” — too good.
