Without D.C. Fontana, we’d probably not have Star Trek as we’ve known it (back when it wasn’t P.C. Drek). RIP.
Sadly, Miss Nichols is not in good shape now. I was at a Trek convention banquet dinner in her hometown of St. Louis back in 1986 where she serenaded the room.
I walked out on a Roddenberry talk once when he said he couldn’t bring himself to believe in a god who couldn’t laugh at himself.
Thanks fieldmarshaldj. It was always PC drek, it's just that our threshold of noticing PC drek has gone way up since then. Ultimately, Star Trek was just a TV show and huge moneymaking franchise.
TOS is pretty right-wing and patriotic by today’s standards. Of course, now that the culture has no standards, it’s hard not to be. But to say it was just a tv show is a huge understatement. Culturally and technologically, it was nothing short of visionary. Without it, it’s doubtful science fiction would be nearly as popular (indeed, no Star Trek, probably no Star Wars). Probably no tv show was ever as influential.
Yeah, right-wing, like IDIC.
