Yes I remember that storm very well!
I was stationed at DIA on Bolling AFB and we finally moved into family housing on Bolling that day. We were living in an apartment in Oxon Hills (by Rosecroft raceway) and by the time the mover’s truck got to Bolling and started unloading, the rain turned to ice and then snow. It snowed all night. The boxes I had put out side looked like strange, blocky snowmen.
Never was so glad to simply walk to work instead of driving!

Wisconsin already has record early snowfall - snow yesterday and snow tomorrow, Currently going to a high of 10 today - January weather in November.
Don’t know about the book, but the forecast is for the cold spell, which is just beginning, to last 500 years
in May 2003. Almost 16 years ago, during the previous sun cycle. Even then there were only a few spots as shown.
And down on the MS Gulf Coast it’s gonna be around 27F tonight...pretty rare for pre-January/February...
Proof that ... I should have read the fine print.
