Midget and dwarfism are separate conditions, although colloquially interchangeable.
Midgets are proportionally smaller humans, while dwarfs have shorter extremities with more average torsos.
If "Oriental" is now a no-no, shouldn't "Occidental" also be? Perhaps Occidental College, President Obama's alma mater--as well as mine--should change its name.
Excellent question. I wonder that too.
WE can’t say “colored people”, but “people of color” is deemed to be ok.
I was told once we shouldn’t say “crippled” anymore, that you should say “challenged”.
I understand language can change, but, I don’t understand how formerly acceptable terms are now said to be offensive.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People can’t use that name for the people they purport to represent.
Ditto for the United Negro College Fund.
Yeah, I wanted it to be clear. I’ll do better next time. LOL
imagine the outcry if they offered that stamp today.
Larry the cable guy goes after people who are disabled.
You should not do so to people who cannot defend themselves.
I have a cousin who has a disabled son and I would deck anyone who made fun of him.
Plenty of other things to make fun of and not target the disabled.
Very true. Since Oriental and Occidental are complementary and opposite terms, if one is banned, then both should be banned. Or would be, if these decisions were made in some logical manner.
Speaking of disabled, there is a PC angle to that one too.
This year, major league baseball changed the name of the “disabled list” to the “injured list”. Reason being, to call a player “disabled” was deemed offensive to people with disabilities. So now baseball has banned the use of the term disabled list.
Yep. Except, as a biology major long ago, the terms I read were: Mongoloid, Caucasoid, Negroid.
I have never used the -oid ending for the last two, don’t know why maybe i never heard the words or something.
And you can’t say faggot or N word— unless you are one.
