The great thing about basketball is all you really need is a ball in the hoop so any poor people can do it very easily

It’s a cheap sport to play, in a relatively small area. It works well in urban and rural settings.

How many games have the Shanghai Sharks played in the last / years? Is it 5?

The really sad part is the complete lack of courts in the city. There was no pick up hoops in all of Shanghai (city of 30 million).

Very sad.

We have four Chinese university exchange students (ages 19 to 22) with us for the summer. They are from Shenzhen province and the tallest is about 5’9”. They LOVE NBA basketball and say all of their friends play and watch games every chance they get. I’ve taken them to shoot hoops a couple times and was actually surprised by a couple of them. They kind of played like average middle-school boys and it was obvious that they’d spent some time doing drills and shooting. Two of them are Kyrie Irving fans, one James Harden.

NBA was big in tv there, no doubt.

Ask them if there are pick up hoops games in Shenzhen.

I looked for it, and found none In Shanghai.

People can’t walk on the grass in the parks. Really! Police chase you blowing whistles after 2 steps on the grass. (Not kidding)

It is very sad.
