Browser recommendation: I use
Slimjet. It has a built in ad blocker. Add Web of Trust and Ghostery and you're blocked from trackers and most ads.
I really like it.

I'm using the Chrome brower and I switched to Bing. If you're using Chrome, it's easy to switch from Google to another search engine. Chrome is google. Switch to MSM or Firefox or any others but get off of chrome and don't use gmail.
