Who gets to decide who is a lunatic and what due process is there?
Who gets to decide who is a “dangerous hothead”?
Lagmeister said upthread:
“...Trump has a way of saying he will listen... listens and then ignores them. ...”
And he has already said the focus will be on the mental angle and not the weapon.
That is the correct thing to look at, since it’s been un-addressed & let go.
How do you think 'RATS would react?
Really? Even the NRA backs red flag laws.
The NRA has been a clown show for years. They backed the bump stock ban which is clearly contrary to US Code. Theyve abandoned their purpose and most of their senior leadership is about to go to prison for embezzlement or theyre dissociating themselves from the sinking ship.
SAF, GOA, and FPC arent in favor of these red flag laws that piss all over the 4th, 5th, and 2nd. Theyre who Im donating to now.
No more gun laws, period. Its a 100% non starter.
Hmmmm....
We are getting some vague hint about gun rights restrictions, I am giving my direct response...
Other than that, I got no problem with Trump.
Or are we not allowed to have an opinion, Express such or have a discussion on matters of importance and not paying absolute obeyance and fealty unquestionably?
“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”
Whats wrong with prohibiting gun sales to lunatics or dangerous hotheads?
Everyone who posts on FR, any gun forum, goes to church and believes homosexual sex is a sin, or believes in due process will be instantly labeled a dangerous hot head.
People adjudicated mentally unstable by a court are already barred from possessing firearms.
“Whats wrong with prohibiting gun sales to lunatics or dangerous hotheads?”
It turns out that none of these mass shooters showed any insanity prior to their horrible act.
Yes. I think we are all in agreement, on that :)
The problem is with who gets to decide who the lunatics and hotheads are.
That would be all of us here at FR. guaranteed.
I am not ready to make the shootings the result of a CIA conspiracy. I does seem strange that we have the Garlic Festival, El Paso and Dayton shootings within weeks of each other. Are they copy-cat killings by mentally imbalanced people? I think so. To possess such a mentality, I believe, takes a long process. In that time, people would have perceived that the individual has mental problems. The trouble is, there is no way to put such perceptions into action. Who does one call? The answer to that question will take one to endless dead ends. Try getting a simple answer from you doctor about depression. The answers would sending you on numerous dead end ends: drink relaxing teas, yoga, meditation, more sleep, running, etc. If you get a referral to a psychologist, hope you have insurance to pay for it. If not, more dead ends. Does one give up? Answer that for me.
Well, lets look at their complete medical history, then...what drugs, if any, were they taking or had been recently prescribed?
The NRA is dead wrong to support red flag laws. Anyone can call the cops, say they are concerned about your mental state, how much you've been drinking, how you park your car, how you tie your shoes, whatever, then they will send the goon squad to take your guns from you. You will have to prove your innocence or sound state of mind to get your guns back and no doubt it will cost you a lot to do so. Maybe more than they are worth.
Red flag laws are pure evil wrapped in a blanket of unicorns and rainbows. Like all heinous laws like this; they will cause more violence and mayhem. Several people have already been killed by the goon squads. Those who weren't killed are probably thinking it's time for another Boston Tea Party type revolution. As more people are wronged by these red flag laws; more people will band together privately until they take action. The government can only kick the people in the teeth so many times before the people kick back.
No doubt the bigger question is how to keep guns out of the hands of the crazies. If someone is truly crazy like these nut bags were/are then a stay in a mental hospital is in order. If they are found to be competent and sane then everything resets back to before this drama started. The problem with red flag laws, as I see it, is there are lots of evil people who will claim you, Mr. McGavin999, are crazy and should not own guns or be free in society. Anyone can say this about you. At that point you're guilty until proven innocent and you haven't done anything but look at somebody wrong or hurt someone's feelings or didn't trim an adjoining tree with your neighbor to their liking.
This isn't just a slippery slope; it's coated in the finest synthetic oil for maximum slipperiness.
One last note, even if the gov takes someone's guns away, they still have the ability to make bombs, biological agents, fly a plane into a government capital building, or a million other ways to commit mayhem. Guns are actually the least deadly out of many other possibilities. Imagine one truck bomb like Timothy McVeigh used. It could take out a dam which would kill hundreds of thousands; maybe millions. I'm sure the gun grabbers would be very happy about that. It would be far better to encourage honest responsible people to carry concealed and hopefully never have a need to use it because the crazies would know anyone could be armed and stop them DEAD in their tracks before they could do maximum mayhem. Pardon the long post but this is a complicated issue.
Why dont you two fold now and save us the drama
Ill fight it to the end by all legal means. Id like to think others might be motivated in a similar direction knowing the presidents historic weakness on this issue.
Yeah, and who knows where that leads.
I can see these “Red Flag” laws being abused.
Mental illness fomented by the leftist agenda
So you put in the right kind of controls to keep the red flag from being put on frivolously. Get involved, make sure its done properly, but there is no way any of these shooters should have had access to guns.
It sure could would. See post #54.
