One has a house on an island and does very well, another has a nice suburban house simular to the pipefitter.
After his apprenticeship, the pipefitter can start banking the money for many years then the back or knees or...
The Physician completes Med school, then an unpaid fellowship... starts or buys into a practice $$$ and repaying his student loans... After paying for everything his income will continue to rise until he feels like cutting hours.
