Wonder if the early guys ever considered Sheepshead teeth for dentures?

I'm with PJ. O'Rourke on this. Modern dentistry is the only reason I need not to travel back to the past.

Dentistry was brutal prior to the 20th Century and some would argue well into the 20th Century. I remember as a child in the 1970s having intense fear of the dentist - and it was painful.

Interesting fact: Barbers used to function as surgeons/dentists as well and bloodletting (as a "cure" for various ailments) was still in practice. In fact, the barber's pole is meant to signify the bandages that the barbers would have on hand for the bloodletting procedure.

Article acknowledges they do not know if the human teeth were worn by Washington.

I will be in false teeth shortly. I cannot find a firm that makes canine style dentures. Fake plastic crap out there but no honest usable type canine teeth.

I’ve made it to 76 w/o dentures. But I have
thousands of dollars worth of crowns and a bridge.
Still prefer them to dentures, though.

“Without his invention, there would be no internet, no iPhones, no tablets, no PCs, no servers, no routers, no WiFi, no Bluetooth, no filesharing, no Netflix, no Yahoo, no Google, no Microsoft, no Apple, no Cisco, no TI, no Qualcomm, no Facebook, no Instagram, no Pinterest, none of it. Zero.”

He was one person in a lab dedicated to this effort. We would still have all of the above.

I thought a bridge was a denture.

We’re his generalizations wrong

Look around you

Everybody may be equal to God

They don’t equal

My bridge is anchored to a crown and is permanently in place.

Blacksmiths often served as ‘dentists’ too since they had the tools for it.

I wouldn’t live in the past because of lack of antibiotics.

Even though I’m very healthy, I probably would have died 15 years ago with a serious bladder and kidney infection.

It seems like vampire-style dental implants are a thing. How do you like these canine teeth?

Yes, America would have been discovered within 8 years if Columbus had never lived, and the fate of the Indians would have been pretty much the same. Although I don’t know if the Portuguese had the fight in them the Spanish had. But you can’t tell the haters of Western Civ anything like the fact that stone-age people don’t fare well when confronted by more modern types.

“PERHAPS slave teeth, is what the researcher says— in FACT, and not what is in the headline. This is craven BULLCRAP.

Here is the diary entry as quoted in the article, and note that it refers to the Dr. dentist involved— who charged him for “Negroe’s teeth”. He did not pay HIS slaves to give up their teeth. For the Lord’s sake. People in the 1700’s, all races, would SELL their teeth to dentists, who would only pay them on “account of their use in dentistry”. That is to say— dentists did not keep teeth in PAID inventory. They took the teeth on “account” for the patient to pay for. These a-holes cannot read, nor have they consulted Washington clinical experts— of which there are at least 10 still living, one at the quite lib Hahhhhvahhd.

Here’s the Quote: The notation simply reads: ‘By cash pd Negroes for 9 Teeth on Acct of Dr. Lemoin (aka La Mayeur).’

Washington’s dentist, Dr Jean-Pierre Le Mayeur, was known for his practice of paying people for their healthy teeth which he would use to make dentures for his wealthy clients.

Historians also do not know for certain whether the teeth that Washington bought from La Mayeur ended up in his later ivory dentures.”

Not ANY named of his actual slaves, which are well enumerated in the records... by name. These were teeth the good dentist found, or unknown paid donors- un-named. So they could very well have been freedmen— there were many in the colonies.

One further comment: the last line— “do not know for sure if they “ended up in hi later ivory dentures”. So it is NOT at all established that he wore them in dentures— But— what IS established is that he was not prejudiced about the SOURCE of the teeth. Wait and see what contortional logic will be applied by the Bolsheviks as VIRTUE SIGNALLING that Washington was a racist. Really- a racist was willing to put “negro” teeth in his dentures and pay for them through his dentist? Don’t think so.

And— Washington did not hate Native Americans either— see his first Inaugural address and his Farewell address- both give his wished regarding our historical citizens.

This is why you can’t give in to liberal bullies. Confederate flags weren’t enough. They want to wipe out all history but the fake one that justifies their institutional power.

It mirrors fundamentalist Islam’s demands to erase all non-Islamic history to create the illusion that they’ve always had power and therefore always will.
