Did they ever figure out who did it? I never actually watched it.
I agree. Ugh. Felt like I was with bunch of liberals all whinning about being victims.
Poor writing. No depth.
I do like the way this season is portraying the media though. Calling them out for their evil manipulation.
“Poor writing. No depth.”
True dat. Also mediocre acting and directing. Many reasons why it got banished to Netflix.
Did you know they brought this show back ?
24 was much better. I read that Kiefer never watched a full episode. I guess it was too right wing for him but he wanted the work. He was good in it. This one; meh.
I call it Designated Communist. Didn’t know it was brought back.
Maybe I’ll call it Designated Zombie now.
Call it Designated Homosexual ... episode 4 had a full blown butt sex scene.
No more of this show for me.
“Did they ever figure out who did it?”

Yes. It was blamed on the muslims, who actually took credit for blowing up the Capitol, but they were not to blame.
An ex-Afghan War soldier turned congressman was the only survivor of the explosion during the State of the Union speech, which wiped out the entire Senate, the president, vice president, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the entire Supreme Court, and the entire Cabinet, except for the HUD secretary, played by Keifer Sutherland, who was the designated survivor (and by default, the president).
There was another woman member of Congress who was not at the State of the Union, so she survived, too. Basically, 433 members of the House were wiped out. It was mentioned that there were over 1,000 killed in all.
It turns out that the congressman who survived the blast had committed “war crimes” in Afghanistan. Few people knew that, and he became a national hero for surviving the attack on the Capitol building.
It turns out, he had left the chambers during the State of the Union speech and was hunkering down in a specially built shelter in the Capitol Building. He and his wife were both part of the plot to take over the government.
All the men who had worked on the shelter were killed off before the bombing so the secret of the shelter would not be revealed, but it was eventually discovered by some FBI underlings. The FBI director died in the bombing.
The coup plotting congressman was made vice president and, within minutes, a sniper shot President Kirkland so that the no good vice president could become the Chief Executive.
But President Kirkland survived, and waved from his hospital window in his pajamas in a scene reminiscent of Ronald Reagan waving from HIS hospital window after his assassination attempted in March 1981.
The no good vice president and his wife were later seen visiting Arlington National Cemetery, where the VP’s wife shot and killed the new VP. As I said, she was part of the plot, too, and she believed their scheme was falling apart and she flipped out.
Eventually, the other coup plotters were arrested all over the country and of course, they were all members of conservative groups who were unhappy with the direction of the country.
The series had promise at first, but went downhill with liberal story lines, clichés, and other leftist claptrap.
Geez....I’m glad I stop watching during the second season.
The show was really good at first, then went downhill with liberal story lines.
That must be in the reconstituted season. It was bad but not that bad in the original three.
If I didn’t already think DS sucks, that would nail it.
That said, in Last Tango in Paris there is this butt thing with Marlon Brando that the actress opposite him was not expecting in real life. It was unprecedented ad startling for the times.
I figured it be a “white conservative” terrorist.
Democrats are evil scum.
Yeah, its a Netflix show now. No limits of network TV anymore.
Never watched it! Rather watch a test pattern, than 90% of the shows on TV...
That’s why I didn’t know it was on. I’m still on DirecTV.
Most of it is garbage too.
I had just finished binge watching 24 and was expecting a little bit of Jack Bauer. Kiefer’s limp-wristed timidity in DS was bad enough, but the portrayal of everyone right of center as demented turned me off instantly.
Come on ... He’s an independent in this show ... It should be called Designated Independent Communist.
Sheesh.
I loved 24, always thought Kiefer was a good actor, I really like him, but
NOT ENOUGH TO WATCH MORE OF THIS MONSTROSITY THAN ONE SEASON.
This isn’t entertainment, it’s societal force feeding.
