With the willing help of pill mills.
This is not all on the pharmacy companies. Much of it lies on Hospital Joint Commission who a decade or so ago demanded that no patient should ever be in pain and doctors were being punished for not writing script for this junk. Then you just have some doctors who got in on the money as well.
Most important you had people who abused their prescriptions and now won’t take responsibility for it their actions. I have had surgeries that were quite painful and were prescribed some of these drugs. I took them for a max of two days and then went to Tylenol, and it managed the pain and made it bearable because even years ago it was logical to assume any drug could be addictive and if it was opioid based it had to be.
In order to get a low-dosage prescription of opioids (bad back) from the VA, I had to take a blood/pee test and sign a document that it was for my use only. They made a big production out of it.
Who else is doing something about it? Someone needs to get off their asses. Even this would stall if the Public Nuisance wasn’t being used. Other states could have done something years ago but didn’t.
Greedy states, you sound like a paid troll
ah name calling- how predictable- so you’ve no problem with states legalizing pot- allowing drinking, but suing for an exagerated ‘crisis’? Do try to respond like a mature poster without name calling, thanks
But it is far far more complicated than your simple stat. Prescriptions run out, then what? Many legally prescribed drugs end up on the street? Then what. Of course sealing the border would make a huge difference, but that's not happening so do nothing. You have a lot of nerve condemning someone who is at least doing something. Every other state can do this too, they are just too damn lazy. His approach is exactly how they took Al Capone off the street.
[[You have a lot of nerve condemning someone who is at least doing something.]]
States are already doing plenty without the get rich quick lawsuits— so stop with the faux outrage-
[[But it is far far more complicated than your simple stat.]]
No it isn’t-
[[His approach is exactly how they took Al Capone off the street.]]
Lol- yeah,. ok
aniother point to back up my ‘manufactured opioid crisis’ statement is hte fact that studies have shown very very low addiction rates in peopel prescribed opioids for pain- infact,
A 2010 Cochrane review of 26 studies found reports of opioid addiction in only 0.27 percent of patients.
out of nearly 5000 patients studied only 0.027% got addicted-
https://www.cochrane.org/CD006605/SYMPT_opioids-long-term-treatment-noncancer-pain
far more peopel get addicted to alcohol- or stronger drugs through their use of pot- most deaths from opioids are from illegal drugs- even among those given legal prescriptions, their deaths are due to combining the legal prescriptions with illegals ones- and no- the majority of deaths were not because people on legal drugs were ‘driven to illegal drugs’ - most were because the people were addicts BEFORE ever conning their doctors into prescribing them legal opioids- As you can see from the studies above- very very few people become addicts-
Even later studies done show an extremely low addiction rate- The rise in opioid deaths from ‘legal prescriptions’ is because illicit drug users conned their doctors into giving them legal prescriptions- and they combined their legal drugs with illegal drugs and/or alcohol-
lawsuits against doctors and manufacturers will need to prove doctors intentionally gave drugs knowing that the people were already addicts and weren’t so bad off that they didn’t need opioid prescriptions- that will be a hard task for prosecutors to prove willful intent- or even negligent homicide-
but in an attempt to beef up their claims in order to bilk opioid manufacturers out of billions, and get good decent doctors arrested-, states are suggesting that all deaths from opioids must be factored in- making it seem as though the majority of addicts were ‘once legal prescription patients’ who then turned to illegal drugs, and that is nowhere even near the truth- A very very sm all percentage of drug deaths were from people addicted to legal drug prescription patients-
sorry- that shoudla read “Out of 5000 studied, only 0.27% got addicted”- not 0.027%
Doing What? What are the results?
[[Doing What?]]
Seriously? You can do your own homework- laws have been changed making it impossible for get month’s long prescriptions anymore- cutting down severely on the amount going out- and doctors are very wary now of handing them out for fear of losing their job or going to prison should something happen- causing people with legitimate severe pain issues to suffer- which infarct drives these people to suicide—
(Opioids have been used for legitimate purposes for 1000’s of years- they are a very useful product- and have helped millions of people with severe pain- and for the most part doctors have prescribed them responsibly- however yes, there certainly have been unscrupulous doctors who ran ‘pill mills’- and yes, these people should be prosecuted- and have been- but the majority of docs issued them responsibly- The fact that so many addicts began conning doctors into prescribing them opioids- meant that yes, things had to change- but it was NOT the doctor’s fault for not realizing some of their patients were conning them- This whole’ opioid crisis’ claim is nonsense- When used as directed- there is very little chance of addiction- most doctors agree- The problem comes in not being able to determine with 100% accuracy who will abuse them and NOT use them as directed- but now there is a severe limit on the amount people can get- so it is cutting down on deaths all across the US by people who do abuse them and have conned their doctors-)
WV has substantially cut down and has decreased deaths as a result- you can look up the results yourself- The3 only reason the deaths aren’t down to zero however is because people who were taking BOTH prescription and illegal at the same time can’t get the legal anymore- BUT they continue taking the illegal and are still dying- These people were addicts BEFORE conning their doctors into giving them prescriptions-
Again- the % of people who get legal drugs becoming addicted is very very low- less than 2%- The deaths that are still happening are due to the addicts that conned their doctors into giving them prescriptions- and then combining them with other illegal drugs and or alcohol- The major majority of people dying are due to people abusing illegal drugs and or legal drugs unbeknownst to doctors- who do their best to try to determine who are ‘pill seekers’ and who legitimately need help by and large- Are there problem areas such as W.V? Certainly- however states are making a lot of progress and getting good results- you can look these up if you like- I’m not going to as I’ve already done so in the past- and don’t care to keep rehashing this- there is plenty of evidence online once you get past the hysterical exaggerated claims made by the anti-opioid groups- and I’m not just talking biased pro opioid sites- I’m talking actual accredited medical sites and organizations either, that have done the studies-
WV? WV is nothing, and neither is OK for that matter, not much has been fixed, but there may be some interesting testimony vome out.
You sound far too status quo. Me thinks you may be a troll.
[[Me thinks you may be a troll.]]
Enough with the name calling- WV has made progress- you can find the info online0- I’m NOT looking up for you- I’ve done the research- it’s not hidden info- the stats are there for you to find- If you can’t be mature enough to discuss the issue without resorting to name calling- then this is over now- -
[[not much has been fixed,]]
You can’t be serious!
I told you to look past the hyperventilating fake crisis manufacturers called the MSM, and blogs- and get your info about the opioid problem from reliable sites- medical sites- Getting your stats from news sites like CNN CNBC etc will NOT give you an accurate account of what is happening-
Doctors in WV are NOT handing out the prescriptions anymore unless the need is real, and unless the patient has gone through numerous alternatives like PT and mental health health programs first and still can’t cope with the pain- There has been a huge reduction in doctor prescribed opioids there- The people dying from drugs are getting them ILLEGALLY- From drugs imported into the US illegally-
So again- just stop with the name calling- it’s tiring- and it is NOT becoming of you- and shows a lack of argument on your part! If you continue being uncivil- I’m done- I have no desire to discuss anything with someone that can’t discuss a matter in a mature civil manner- I have given you the facts- and you’ve come back with nothing but opinion and name calling- Enough already!
the death rate from legal opioids in WV has fallen nearly 20% since the state began strict opioid prescription requirements,- While the deaths from ILLEGALLY ACQUIRED synthetic opioids has not- This is due to the illegal drug trade- NOT to legally prescribed drugs- and here again this just proves how little addictiveness there is with legally prescribed opioids in the first place- the fact that the death rate if falling from legally prescribed drugs is due to the fact there were still addicts of other drugs combining their legal meds with the illegal ones after they conned their doctors into giving them prescriptions- and is NOT due to the fact non addicts suddenly became addicted and overdose in great numbers- they don’t- the rate- once again of addiction is under 2%- those that were dying were people who were addicts- who conned their doctors, and who abuse the prescriptions by increasing it without authorization and by combining them with illegal drugs and or alcohol- The fact is WV IS improving by severely restricting who can get them now- but the fact still remains that addicts aren’t getting them from doctors anymore, so they just continue on with their illegal drug use- -
To say that WV hasn’t made strides in the legal prescription issue AND in reducing deaths from said legal prescriptions is a lie- and the msm that doesn’t report these facts in order to keep their fake legal drug ‘crisis’ agenda going are scum-
Doctors are to blame too. Doctors are the worst to go one direction with drugs until it gets out of control, then go the opposite and leave people in pain that should not be. I have seen a couple of cycles of this in my lifetime.
A woman I know is dealing with this opioid crisis up close and personal. Her son was a hard working family man, fairly successful. He was in a horrific car wreck with serious injuries a few years ago. Along the way he was given pain meds like there was no tomorrow for a couple years. Then he was all but cut off by his doctors, and he claimed to still be in a lot of pain. Whether he was still in pain or whether he became addicted and a drug seeker- he began to seek pain meds on the street. He did become addicted, and lost his family and business along the way. He became a criminal, getting caught along the way for possession more than once. Now he is facing some serious jail time, and has committed the crimes so hard to argue with that. The thing is, could the doctors have dealt with his pain issues differently? Could they have recognized his addiction and possibly got him help with that before his downward spiral?
His mother talked to the sheriff today about her son’s legal issues and he told her this is a common story now. Law enforcement is seeing this over and over.
I don’t pretend to know the answers but doctors, drug companies are not blameless. The open border has not helped either. It is just a mess.
I read somewhere that they won’t give terminal patients all the pain killers they want/need because they might end up getting addicted. Suffering, you know, is noble as long as it’s someone else doing it.
you know what? I’m done- I asked you nicely to discuss the issue without resorting to name calling- and you obviously aren’t capable of holding a mature discussion with someone- I’ve given you facts and links to back them up- or advice where to find them- and all you’ve given in response is ‘Nuh Uh’ and ‘your a shill’ or ‘your a troll’ or “You have a lot of nerve condemning someone” Blah Blah Blah-
I’m tired of trying to have a civil discussion with people who have to resort to name calling- I’m not wasting my time with you any further- You have been given the facts- do whatever you want with them- i don’t care-
