The most disturbing thing is that she’s completely convinced that she was right to take the sign and throw it away - which is what she was trying to do when stopped.

Just larceny? Assault should be added to those charges among harassment and interfering in a lawful protest. Make the list of charges so long she will be hoping to get just 5 years in prison and 5 years probation. Then fine her $50k so she remembers this lesson for many years after she gets out as she struggles to pay it down.
