The errant IS-29E is not the only threat in geostationary orbit (GEO) today. Here is a view of everything tracked in that region of the GEO Protected Zone. Green represents operational satellites; orange, dead ones; red, rocket bodies; and yellow, other debris.

There’s far too much space junk up there ready to fall in someone’s backyard.

Must be CNN’s, fake news from junk.
To: BenLurkin
it is a pity that they cannot program satellites like this to de-orbit if they suffer a catastrophic failure. Let the junk burn up in the atmosphere.

First Space X, now this...”anomaly”. Why can’t they just say stuff failed or blew up?

I didn’t know that song was used in TWD........FWIW, TWD had some awesome unique songs throughout the seasons.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)
To: txnativegop
The contradiction there is between “catastrophic failure” and “program ... to [do]”. Catastrophic failure implies that control is lost.

Meanwhile, according to the Intelsat statement, "a failure review board has been convened with the satellite's manufacturer, Boeing, to complete a comprehensive analysis of the cause of the anomaly." Anomaly: Deviation from the normal or common order or form or rule. (WordWeb) Boeing in the news again.
