“Are you seriously trying to argue that a vessel as topheavy as a cruise liner …”

Non sequitur

“You may be correct but I have not heard that the ship lost power just propulsion. “

Article refers to engines.

” … a vessel as topheavy as a cruise liner …”

I never referred to a cruise ship as topheavy.

If you are, please back up your claim.

Here is my original statement: A 45-degree list? Unlikely.

See the word "unlikely"? That means "not likely." It doesn't mean "impossible" or "absolutely." Just "odds are against it."

It was phrased as a question. ARE you trying to argue that point? If not, a simple "No, I am not" would suffice.

Look, if you're some kind of naval architect or ship designer, I'll defer to your greater expertise. But common sense and a rudimentary knowledge of physics, as well as some background in marine engineering tells me that a cruise ship heeling to 45 degrees is more likely to capsize than right. If your vast knowledge of the design specs of this particular vessel leads you to know differently, I stand corrected.

Please post your whole statement. Thanks.

Besides, that is not the one we were discussing. I posted the one we were discussing.

To save you time, you said it would never recover.

Never is absolute.

And absolutely wrong.

“. But common sense and a rudimentary knowledge of physics, as well as some background in marine engineering tells me that a cruise ship heeling to 45 degrees is more likely to capsize than right. “

Then please explain how. I won’t hold my breath.

Once your righting arm reaches the point of vanishing stability, you are as screwed as it sounds.

“It was phrased as a question.”

You started the question with a declaration that cruise ships are top heavy.

Since I never agreed with that declaration your question is misleading.

At what point do you vanish?

A roll or sinking is covered by insurance. A cancelled cruise is not.

“Why the snark?”

Because, like all other ships, the center of gravity is located below the water line.

Been that way for a few thousand years.

#43 The reason they do not tip over is because of all the dollar coins ballast from the casino above.

Real Vikings knew better than to sail out into a storm. Lucky they didn’t end up sleeping in Ran’s bed.

Didn’t you earlier declare ignorance on that subject?
