We need to change the old saw to; everyone dies, but women, children and farmers hit worse.
No need to apologize. On some other threads, some FReepers have had the “don’t build in a flood plain” mentality, which is sort of hurtful. They clearly do not understand the impact of this event, and that it could not have been predicted, etc. Some heartwarming stuff (as well as discouraging) on here:

Praying for all who have lost so much all around us here.
There is a risk in any thing we do, that is what capitalism is all about and Americans love the risk.
so while there may be a lot of complaining the American farmers will pull their boots back on and go to
work.
While a socialist would give up and start whining to the government the Americans will come out of it come
hell or high water, so don’t let this bad news get you down and don’t start passing the blame.
The Americans with their do it myself attitude has came through much more than this many times and will come
out of this.
Once people realize their milage goes up 10% ethanol joke will be gone.

Sort of like that backwards country song -
Got my mileage back
Lawnmower carb doesn’t rot away
Boat motor runs good
Chainsaw tubing does not decompose
Endanger the food supply? More like endanger the ethanol supply.
Ah, you are the winner!
How do you make an Iowa farmer cry?
Weld his mailbox shut.
somewhere along the line I would hope someone figures out a way to pipe flood water west to the western deserts.
Approval for E-15 was just signed this year.
That will put many engines out of business.
I have no idea why Costco chose that location to build a processing plant.
Divided the community. Many of the local farmers wanted it, but the old Hormel people did not want another major employer that close to the city.
But now a lot of guys have $2 million loans on chicken facilities that are going to be empty for a while longer.
The bad thing is that much of the damage was NOT in a flood plane.
Places were under water that have never had water before. That means they do not have flood insurance (couldn’t get it).
My buddy’s house is gone. Just found out. He lived in a lower spot but not one that had any record of flooding. The house was swept partially off the foundation.
