My favorite is “Your Microsoft system has been disabled” as if I just can’t go and check it.

My mom got one of those. Called her “granny”. NONE of us call her that. She has a nickname.
Thank goodness for Caller ID.
I remember that. And I didn’t ask for the Outer Limits to be on at that time. Weird
I don’t even have a camera and I get emails about it.
I received a call stating that my SS# had been suspended. I asked him which one, because I have several. 9 to be exact. He said each person has only one SS# and that I was wasting his time.
I had a computer illiterate friend fall for the tech support scam. Fortunately, she called me immediately and I told her not to wait another second, call the bank, tell them what happened, and to kill the card. I immediately went there and cleaned their crap off the computer and had her change some passwords. She said after that the scammers called her several more times to complain. I told her to simply hang up if they did. Interestingly, the $400 charge never went through and never appeared on her statement, nor did any other bogus charges.
You’ll get them on your cell eventually too. I can always tell when some scammer somewhere got a new list with my cell number on it. I’ll get 3-6 calls per day from different numbers. Of course I never answer them. After a week or 2 of this my cell goes silent. Then a week or 2 later it starts again.
Blocking the numbers does no good. I have 2 different scam call protectors on my phone that doesn’t catch all of them. The only defense is NEVER, and I mean never, answer a call that doesn’t come up in your contacts.
They forgot the original scam....the grandaddy.....
The Candygram For Mongo.
Our answering machine says, “If you’re not a solicitor or a politician, we’ll call you back.”
We get a lot of hang-ups.
Grandson called me. I said Hi whats your name? Click.
Same here. Do not disturb is the best thing ever.
This doesn’t help with the calls I get.
They are from my local exchange—but they’re not, really.
The scammers have software now that can show a LEGITIMATE local number as their number in caller ID.
So, you think you are getting a call from your local Bugtussle community, but it is actually from Islamabad or Mumbai.
I get those. They give a location rather than a name and a local area code. I never answer them.
Maybe I’m just not very friendly.
Bingo!
By getting you to answer yes to that one question at the very beginning of the call... They can use that recording to claim you agreed to pay for some scam program. Even if it looks like the call is from someone you know, rephrase your answer to I hear you just fine to be safe, suggests Velasquez.
This one's new... Thanks for posting.
Thank goodness!
:)
Blocking the number doesnt usually help, the caller Id is generally spoofed

Call blockers like the Digitone work off the CID that shows on your phone, so even if it’s ‘spoofed’, the call will still be blocked. We have a Digitone & it’s a lifesaver for my elderly folks. It really pi$$es me off when I see scam calls; however, it is highly satisfying to see “blocked” blinking after the number on the CID. Link: https://digitone.com/
Latest scam is to spoof names - we’re getting calls that appear to be from legit businesses in the area, but when I look up the numbers, not even close. These calls are blocked by name or whole number or exchange, depending on what I think will be the most effective.
Using 11 in front of the area code - for example: 11202-xxx-xxx trying to get around the blocker - Digitone still blocks.
Using non-existant exchanges with a valid area code. Unfortunately for these bozos (& fortunately for us), their calls show up as ‘Unavailabl” .... blocked by name so they’re not getting through. Every call I have looked up with this name has been a non-valid exchange. At some point, they’ll figure out they need to use a different name for the CID, but until they do, they’re BLOCKED .... heh, heh.
