2 years and 9 months. We did a 3 month test before whacking Comcast.
We have 8 CBS shows which we watch and Zero national and local Fake News bsers! We pay 6$’s per month for the CBS channel.
We are saving a minimum of $200/month.
Our tv set goes on about 5 pm and off at 9 pm.
I have a old VHF,UHF table top TV antenna hooked up to a small flat screen and get 28 HD channels. Most are old movies and TV shows.
Me neither until yesterday.
My daughter bought me a Roku and I must say I am quite impressed at the volume of content I come across on there by accident. Has me thinking about it.
I get 50 over the air digital channels.
Granted a fair number of those are home shopping.
As I told the DirecTV rep last year, I was dropping NFL Sunday Ticket because of the NFL caving to BLM. Without Sunday Ticket, I had no real need of DTV. My homeowners association provides basic cable which I have to pay for whether I watch it or not. So my days of paying for two services were over.
Oh and the Cable TV taxes and fees are huge. The government (local and fed) have their fingers in the TV pie.
Anyway...
We set up a dedicated network for streaming. That way, other traffic doesn't interfere with streaming and visa versa. Actually we have three routers: one for the gateway and streaming, one for secured personal stuff and one for security/IP cameras. The three routers sit right next to each other and coexist really well — it is easy to log into any one of them without interference. the technology has come a long way. :)
Me too. We do both — OTA and streaming. OTA is surprisingly good and best of all it is free.
Direct TV and Dish are losing customers so the solution is to raise rates!
I know, streaming lets you choose what to watch, while cable shows the same crappy movies at times they decide.
It’s a no brainer...
However, we do watch youtube a lot as a free service.
Anyway, streaming is a true free market out there vs Cable TV which is mostly a monopoly.
What is best of all is that you can cancel your membership at any time and the then sign up again the next day. That means that the streaming services have to keep you happy otherwise you will leave.
Happy means the best price per service — the best value.
There is a flat square antenna about 15in x 15in that works really well. It is powered by the USB port on the TV. We tucked it behind a buffet upstairs and behind a picture downstairs.
We bought it at Home Depot.
I also tried larger more bulky antennas and they worked only slightly better. Wifey like things to look nice and it was handy to be able to tuck the antenna behind things.
I tried Hululive but did not like the user experience. I found I could live without all of it. I have ROKU so I can get a lot of good stuff along with some things I can subscribe to. YouTube takes care of a lot of the news and stuff and other entertainment.
I have the OTA antenna and get plenty of stuff there to watch also. SO I really don’t miss anything really from satellite ot cable.
I was thinking about getting a Roku but didn’t know much about it. Then I found out that if you have a modern smart TV, what is built into it is basically a “roku equivalent”. It’s mind boggling.
We live in the future.
Yep. I could have posted that. The broadcast and streaming are two completely different things. I was even able to live stream a recent Trump speech very easily. Love it.
Yup. It will happen first with satellite and then Cable data. Lets hope that it doesn’t change but I don’t expect it to not.
The city governments get their cut so that might be an issue for them too. Look at your cable TV bill — taxes and fees for this and that. Dump TV and out goes the taxes and fees.
In response, cable companies announce rate increases
We downgraded our cable to Spectrum TV choice , 10 cable channels and all locals for $25 a month. We kept 1 dvr. Total bill dropped $56.00 a month.
I am one of those cord-cutters.
The fact is, not only was I funding the enemy — Comcast — it became my most expensive utility.
BUH bye.
