See Gross Pathology first paragraph
Looks to me like half or less of the body was scavenged.
No need to retract though. They're just guessing too. And even a 40 lb. lion could mess a guy up pretty badly.
Yep and this is Fox News helping them out.
If the cat was scavenged before they weighed it at 24 lbs. It was a bigger cat than that.
LOL I have a huge 24 pound orange tabby, his name is Giacomo Bambino.
Fortunately he doesnt understand how big and strong he is, and even though hes 11 years old, hes the baby of the cat family and he always defers to the older smaller cats. Mentally I think he thinks hes still a kitten and lets the other cats boss him around.
He has a very sweet disposition, thank goodness. He could probably kill me if he wanted to.
I read that. But it seems they would have weighed it before that. Either way, I wouldn’t want to fight even a 24 lb mountain lion.
Tabby here also. He’s dumb as a brick, and “plays” with our smaller cat by sitting on her.
No mountain lions in my area but there are a lot of bobcats. A big one will go 24 lbs. I can assure you that not one of you want to tangle with a 24 lb. bobcat, they will completely eff you up. Anyone that thinks they can take on a 24 lb. mountain lion “kitten” like it’s nothing is a serious fool.
My Giacamo doesnt seem to be the brightest bulb in the drawer LOL.
But he is very sweet. Ive read that most ginger tabbys are boys and have very nice dispositions.
LOL about squirrels!
When I lived in Mississippi somehow a squirrel got into one of the labs at Mississippi State. One of my classmates (built like a giant bear, excellent hunter and trapper) put on heavy leather gloves, cornered the squirrel and grabbed him.
That little squirrel bit down so hard on my classmates hand that its eyes rolled back in its head. The squirrel would not let go. My classmate was finally able to toss the squirrel outside (still attached to the glove). My classmate was a very stoic man of few words, but he did exclaim That sumbitch!!!
That squirrel drew blood, even through the leather glove. LOL
The average lowest weigh of adult female mountain lions is 64lbs, thus this could be a juvenile female.
Adult male Bobcats can range in weight from 6.4 to 18.3 kg (14 to 40 lb), with an average of 9.6 kg (21 lb); females at 4 to 15.3 kg (8.8 to 33.7 lb), with an average of 6.8 kg (15 lb).
For comparison, while rare, even bobcats can attack humans. Bobcats Attack Two at Death Valley National Park
Mountain bikers in fatal cougar attack did everything right, authorities ... and Attacks have become more common
More on names:
"Cougars, scientifically known as Puma concolor, can also be called a puma, mountain lion, mountain cat, catamount or panther, depending on where you are geographically. In fact, the cougar holds the Guinness Book record for the animal with the most names, with more than 40 English variations. Regardless of whether you call it a mountain lion or cougar, the babies are referred to as cubs." - https://sciencing.com/baby-cougars-8582162.html
Female cougars take care of their babies until they are old enough to take care for themselves. and baby cougars are called cubs or kittens. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puma
The etymology of cub is unknown whereas kitten derives from late Middle English kitoun, ketoun, from an Anglo-Norman French variant of Old Frenchchitoun, diminutive of chat cat. (
Yep. All I had to do is take one look at those teeth, think about what a domesticated cat could do, and I had sense enough to never try to grab a squirrel.
I’ve had chances...when I was in 7th grade a squirrel by our house would run down the tree and take pecans from my hand. I resisted the urge to try and pet the thing...
A few years ago before I stopped hunting, I sat on a ladder stand watching for deer all morning. A squirrel climbed up a tree a few feet in front of me, jumped onto the tree I was in, while I was talking to him, and its tail slapped across my face as it landed just above my shoulder. Again I had sense enough to not just reach out and catch a wild squirrel...figured it might not end well...I know what a domesticated cat can do, as well as a wild one maybe 2 months old...
You gotta remember, they crack open nuts with those teeth. Pecans, walnuts, hickory nuts...I’ve cracked all 3. I have to use pliers. Squirrels use their teeth...think about it...
Good gosh....don’t bring facts into this...!!!
I couldn’t hep muhself. :)
I know...but it’s fun, right?!?
Muck raking with the truth. It’s a hobby! lol
