Spot on - my total bill was just under $2k. I get 4.5% back on my chase sapphire reserve card plus company reimburse so it was ~$90 for me towards personal travel for free.
I thought that it was more a case of changing tastes, as in milennials weren’t that much into gambling. Even years ago when we were last there some of the smaller casinos on the strip were changing over to high end dance clubs where people preferred $20 shots of Vodka to slot machines.
Home of that hero to all conservatives the “Father of Economics” Adam Smith.
The room was ~$830 per night.
Yup - right around there. The most expensive stay I’ve had was about $1,100 before tax but that was just for one night in Midtown.
Monty Python once posited “Let’s tax all foreigners living abroad”.
I guess THIS is one way to do that.
Gabaldon is ALSO responsible for a boom in North Carolina tourism.
I read a report on Twitter from a local in NC to Diana:
"Raleigh, NC has a lot of #outlander fans. Library has 90 copies of The Fiery Cross & they are all checked out w/ another 123 people on the wait list"
LOLOLOL!!! That'll blow your hair back. :-)
Gabaldon is one of the finest authors out there. I've read a few...
Thanks for looking out, Spectator! LOL! They are great books. <3
Oh that’s right! Grandfather Mountain, IIRC :) Would sure love to attend a Calling of the Clans there someday .... sigh .....
From your library report it seems the TV watchers are crossing over into the real thing, and I’m glad. Miss G’s writing deserves to be read, not interpreted - no matter how well one may think it’s being interpreted ....
I did watch the first few shows and the best moment for me was the opening scene :) .... the guy they cast as Jamie is SO unappealing and the writing for him was even worse. I think they tried to REALLY make Claire the stronger partner -in line with the Power Girls mentality of today.
Lovely, though, great costumes, and I think Claire was an excellent choice. Jamie always looked annoyed or constipated to me - and the scenes with Claire seemed unnatural, forced... I didn’t want that in my head for my reading.
Well, carry on .... :)
Diana also is publishing #DailyLines from Bees on her Twitter feed every month or so, unlike that useless no-load George RR Martin, who allowed the TeeVee series to lap his writing. Loserman.
I absolutely loved Diana's anecdote about her first Lord John book. :-)
If you haven't read that, I'll post it for you.
I have read one of the Lord John books, can’t remember which. Planned to read all them for a long time now :).
Don’t read the Daily Lines, I want it all to be a surprise!
When MOBY came out I at on my back stoop for 3 nights in a row with a bottle of wine. Until dawn, until it was finished :) (My back stoop was the only place I could get quiet and privacy).
The ending of MOBY did seem rushed, as if the TV series was calling her away to other obligations or interests.
I think we can expect Bees in the fall, and she rather sorta kinda hinted at a “Book 10”, “to be sometime later”... gives me reason to take of myself a little better, I gotta stick around for that!
Diana writes [22 Dec 2018]: Yes! Book 9 (GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE) will be out in 2019, God willing and the Creek don't rise... Book 10 will be along summat later....
A DG Big Book is hard on the wine supply. ;-)
