Oh, yes, I forgot that one. It’s a gem. I also like “I’m a Midnight Girl in a Sunset Town”

“No matter what 12 songs were picked, people will always argue over them”
If I picked 12 today they would be different from the 12 I would pick next week. Here’s a good one

My favourite Frankie Lane song is Moonlight Gambler. Great vocals and arrangement.

No list is complete without Big Al...

There was blood on the saddle,
And blood all around,
And a great big puddle
Of blood on the ground.

My favourite Frankie Lane song is Moonlight Gambler. Great vocals and arrangement. Good choice.
Moonlight Gambler--Frankie Laine (1957)

Good grief!
Did the world start in 1962? Some will argue that it almost ended in October of that year. This tune came out the following month.
The End of the World--Skeeter Davis (1962)

I don’t know who wrote it or who did the best job of singing the song, but this one should definitely be in the top 10. IF I AIN’T NUMBER ONE IN YOUR LIFE, THEN NUMBER TWO ON YOU.

I should add that I think Johnny Cashs very best song is probably HurtI think that "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was his best. Lots of singers have captured sadness in their songs but only Johnny Cash captured despair.

I’m not a country music expert, but “the Devil Went Down to Georgia” is worth a mention, I think.
Does “Harper Valley PTA” count as country? I like that one.
Also, “Delta Dawn”.

Also, I thought they would mention the sad songs that used to get to me:
You picked a Fine Time to Leave Me, Lucille
and
Ruby (Don’t take your Love to Town)
That last one used to just really get to me when I was a sensitive little girl. It just seemed Ruby was so heartless and mean.
