This Eric Gales was being promoted as sort of the second coming of Jimi Hendrix. I don’t think that really panned out though.
The old Tappan Zee was the only bridge I felt a little nervous driving across because it was well past the recommended lifetime and it could have truly failed at any time.
That said, the new bridge is pretty nice.
I saw a story that said they have extensive underwater netting in place so the fish will not be harmed. The fact that the Democrat Gov. Cuomo got to name the new bridge after Mario his dad and former Gov. is ridiculous.
I saw the sarc tag but...
"The old structure will fall into nets that are held up by buoys," said Piermont Police Chief Michael O'Shea had said. "The Hudson is deep. It's a major shipping lane for all kinds of cargo. We want to keep everyone safe."
Because this happened in New York, where "Greed is good". Not in California, where "Gaia is God".
Controlled Demolition...
Controlled burn....
TSA screenings.....
Eric Gale was more in the jazz world with his smooth, fluid playing - totally different from Hendrix.
The backstory is Mario Cuomo attempted to rename the bridge after himself while he was sitting as Governor. The Federal government told him "NO!" you cannot do that as the bridge is part of the federal interstate system and the Tappan Zee name is on maps etc. so it cannot be changed.
This supposedly stuck in the egotistical Governor's craw to no end.
Along comes the new Governor (Mario's son Andrew) who presides over the rebuilding of a new, badly needed, bridge. So he satisfies his father's long desired wish and named the new bridge after his father.
The renaming of the new bridge, by the way, occurred under cover of darkness without any public hearings. It was simply added to some hefty budget bill and nobody noticed.
If you think Washington, DC is corrupt, you haven't seen what goes on in Albany, NY, our state capital.
I know the bridge over the Tappan Zee
but the Mario quomo bridge ????
words fail me
I don't live in NY anymore so I don't take the bridges too often. I'm in Pa. now. Driving from PA to NY or CT I always prefer driving the extra miles to use the Tappan Zee rather than the George Washington (shivers). I won't drive the Goethels Bridge either.
Thank you. What a disgrace the whole thing is.
We drive all the way up the Taconic Parkway and take the bridge in Poughkeepsie instead. Takes a bit longer but much prettier and less traffic.
I didn’t realize the Tappen Zee was past it’s expiration date, yikes! New bridge looks nice, but the name *roll eyes*
*ping of interest*
I love demolition vids on YT. Maybe a little *too* much. ;^) Kaboom! Thanks fieldmarshaldj.
